Come out of the closet: What SDMB rules of a"cool" do you break?

I never admit that I’m wrong. I blame it on Opal.
Whoops! is something you say when you fart.

I have felt estranged from most in the SDMB in my tolerance of extramarital affairs.

I’m not saying it would ever be right for me, I’m just saying it has been the only viable response to a bad situation for friends of mine, and I would never savage anyone simply because they had one. My sense is that many SDMB regulars do find such behavior unacceptable, period.

No problem! (hmm… is it more SDMB “cool” to apologize, or to just bluster on and ignore any naysayers. We’ve certanily seen enough of both. Anyway, you’re jake in my book, just trying to bring it back on topic.)

And I see mangeorge beat me to the joke.

I kinda see “goodbye” as a viable response to that bad situation.

They beat me into submission too, within a couple posts. Shortly thereafter I found myself capitalizing an AIM conversation and I realized I had died a little inside.

I loves me some smilies :), all except the embarrassed guy, who needs a re-do. I especially like this guy: :frowning: and this guy: :dubious:, although  that guy makes me laugh, too.

Oh man… here in the Naja household, we have a couple of bachelor’s degrees and a PhD between us, run a self-started-and-grown small business, handle and train wild animals, have a respectable social life, and we loves us some PC and console gaming.

I love to hunt. I love it deeply in a primal, bloody, part-of-the-wild-world, put-food-on-the-table way. Conversely, I personally hate the idea and practice of shooting animals. I’m not anti-gun in any way, but greatly dislike them myself and won’t handle them if I can avoid them, though I have enjoyed skeet shooting in the past.

I really and truly believe Penn and Teller when they say recycling is mostly a scam.

Oh, also, I love animals and in particular my dog, possibly to a slightly irrational degree, and have built a life and a business that revolves in good part around him, but still firmly believe that my dog, like all my pets (and wild non-pet associates), are my property and not my children. I am a huge believer in animal welfare, and none at all in animal rights (and in commas and dependent clauses).

I also would take my dog everywhere with me if allowed, and believe that the world would be a better place for people and dogs if clean and mannerly dogs were allowed everywhere people are, including restaurants, grocery stores, and hospitals.

Begging your pardon, but those seem to be in conflict.
Note that a nice, friendly smiley accompanies this post.

Hence the world “conversely”.

I don’t hunt with a gun, long-distance killing. I hunt with a hawk and a knife. Up close and personal.

You eat sparrows?

And I thought it would be a bow.

Something tells me you might enjoy this game.

I’m with you, except that there is no such thing as a clean dog.

Oh man, I hate not getting jokes!

If it’s not a woosh, my broadwing hawk is not fast or agile enough for sparrowhawking, but it is awfully fun to see a good kestrel do its thing.

I like your style.

At least using Vista and Firefox, that does nothing. I’ve always used the “highlight the text in the box” method and never realized anyone did anything different.

That’s so unfair! I wasn’t even there at the time! I don’t even OWN a wombat!!!
Simply in reply to some recent posts in this thread: I cannot and never will understand the ability and especially the DESIRE and/or ENJOYMENT of ending something else’s life. I find hunting except when there is absolutely no other alternative for sustenance to be morally repugnant and disgusting. Sorry. I support intentionally killing an animal to end its suffering when injured or ill, but that’s about it.

I’ll keep that in mind next time I consider inviting you along.

You don’t have to be sorry, I’m not. Yours isn’t an uncommon feeling, that’s why I posted my hobby under the heading of “rules of ‘cool’ that I break”.

On the other hand, I feel better about myself as an ecologically-minded person eating wild game caught by an apex predator designed by nature to do exactly that, than I do eating factory-farmed meat.

On the other, other hand, aren’t you stealing that apex predator’s hard earned meal? Even if you do feed it something else, or let it hunt again, you’ve interrupted the natural hunter/hunted cycle. No?
I see little difference between a steak from Safeway and a rabbit from a meadow.
BTW; I enjoy meat regularly. But I’m still pretty cool.

In an effort to avoid hijacking another thread, c’mon over here, I started a thread on the subject!

I just recently joined after reading the board for a couple of years now (had my free Guest month sometime last year, though), and I think it’s great to have a chance to get these differences with the plurality of Dopers out of the way up front in a nice non-argumentative context:

Buffy? Angel? Firefly? Huh? Haven’t the foggiest.

I like older cartoons of the theatrical and TV sort but cannot abide anime.

More stuff I like: ultraviolent horror movies and crime dramas–I thought *Hostel *was a gas-- loud scary hard rock, Beat Generation fiction and poetry; fried food, cheap wine, and Nescafe Classico

Not all “conspiracy theories” are bullshit, and everyone who sees them as valid isn’t necessarily a paranoid loon, a cryptofascist crank, or an idiot.

Dogs and birds and herps are all nice pets (I have one budgie right now), but cats strike me as being weird hostile alien life forms.

Furthermore I think anyone who can take proper care of any sort of animal should be allowed to keep said creature as a pet; however, neglect of and cruelty to animals should be much more aggressively prosecuted and have a lot more severe of a penalty.

On the subject of animals, while I’m certainly no PETA type (I eat lots of meat and feel that animal rights types are mostly sentimental bullies who want to enforce their emotion driven opinions on others much like religious zealots), nor do I automatically put humans first and think that the prevailing insistence on doing so is harsh, narrow-minded and unfair.

I’m a firm believer in the existence of psychic abilities and the efficacy of magick when performed correctly. Also while I don’t believe in gods or ghosts per se, I’m convinced that there are a whole lot of non-corporeal intelligences (spirits, if you will) which interact with the material world sometimes, and who aren’t above passing themselves off as gods or ghosts if it suits their agenda.
I refuse to participate in the fraud that is electoral politics.

I smoke, enjoy it guiltlessly,am polite about it to polite non-smokers and think all these encroaching non-smoking regulations (the public street? your rented home? C’mon!) are nothing but forms of creeping authoritarianism.

I think all laws regarding possession of drugs, consensual adult sexual behaviour and artistic expression are oppressive, authoritarian and should be stricken from the books.

People should be allowed to take a lot more responsibility for their own self-protection and retribution against those who wrong them; that, and the rescinding of laws regarding victimless behaviour (see above), would go a long way toward averting an encroaching police state.

I think responsible individuals have the right to possess any weapons they desire and can afford, up to the rocket-launcher level.

I’m really conflicted about capital punishment-on the one hand, I tend to favor the wronged taking revenge, and can see some people as being rabid (so to speak) and needing put down as a kindness to themselves and/or protect others; on the other hand I don’t think a state is a legitimate entity or has a legitimate right to impose sanctions.

Sometimes I like to mess around with spelling, grammar capitalization and usage as a form of creative wordplay (I’m a poet after all) despite the howls and snarls it mightr elicit from fans of such mavens of correct-and-conforming language as Mssrs Strunk and White

When it comes to a conflict between liberte, egalite, and fraternite, I favor liberte nearly every time. Individual freedom for each of us to do as we will is the most important thing.

I give panhandlers spare change (and cigarettes) when I can afford to and feel like it, and I think it’s nobody’s business but their own what they spend it on.

So, have I blown my reputation on the SDMB forever now? Is anyone going to like me now that you all know I’m weird?

Must be a Vista “feature.” It works on Firefox under XP.

I would never capitalize anything if it was something I could get away with consequence-free. I hate capital letters.

So what’s with your user name?
mangeorge, cap free.
