Come out of the closet: What SDMB rules of a"cool" do you break?

I liked the Star Wars prequels. Daredevil, and 300.

I am pro-war.

I’m not a liberal…and I’m not a conservative, either.

To be fair to the rest of the Board, I think I’m the only asshat who really gets my panties in a twist about Starbucks. (To the same extent, anyway.) And ISTM that here, just like everywhere else, the majority thinks the hippest thing on Earth is to memorize all of Starbucks’ drink names. But then, if hip were what the majority thought it was, maybe it wouldn’t be hip. My head hurts. Maybe I need some coffee.

OpalCat is a fairly active poster. You’ve never seen her post here in five years?

As for me, I really wish I hated coffee, 'cause now I can’t drink it and I get cravings like mad when I smell it being brewed.

I don’t much care for the Simpsons (which elicits as much shock from linguists as it does from the CS crowd), and I despise Buffy. ETA: I do appreciate “embiggen” and “cromulent” as much as the next descriptivist, though.

I’ve never had bacon salt, and don’t ever plan to.

I like smilies.

The MMP has waaaay too much saccharine for me. I actually love most of the MMP regulars–there seems to be a lot of overlap between that group and the group of cooler, more intelligent Dopers. But the MMP thread itself is just so sticky-sweet; I can’t say I like my Mondays surly and baggy-eyed (though tomorrow’s will be, what with a dentist appt at 7:30 in the AM–seven freakin’ thirty!), but I’m definitely somewhere between the MMP’s atmosphere and there.

Well, I suppose I could start with the fact that I had to look up what MMP meant. Massive Multi-Player? I hate those things.

I don’t particularly care for The Colbert Report. It has a seen one, seen 'em all type of feel for me. I will grant you that the speech he did at the correspondence dinner was pretty funny.

drm, we’re talking about the Monday Morning Post, an MPSIMS thread that one of a small group of Dopers starts every Monday morning, and then a small assortment of regulars comes in and they have a free-flowing, rather light-hearted, sweet & fluffy type discussion about just about everything.

I hate Starbucks, but I do like Canada’s pre-existing equivalent, Second Cup. It’s much better than Starbucks, too, though just about as spendy. They make an excellent chai latte and an equally sinful caramel mocchiato. Yeah, so once in a while I like a foofy coffee.

I never liked Buffy or Angel or just about anything by Joss Whedon.

I have no interest in politics. I have never voted.

I also have no interest in sports.

I liked Wil Wheaton’s character in ST:TNG.

I didn’t hate Jar Jar Binks, though I did feel the whimsy he brought was misplaced and poorly executed given the more serious, epic, even legendary nature of the Star Wars movies. The originals (Parts IV-VI) used humour much more effectively.

I also like Taco Bell – when they get my order right. Heck, I like most fast food, actually – except Harvey’s. Their beef patties are wretched and as far from tasting or even having the texture of real ground beef as it’s possible to get without being tofu. They taste like those crap frozen patties you buy in a supermarket. McDonalds’ burgers taste more like real beef than their burgers do.

I have a strong dislike of the word “meme” (heh, my spell checker tells me that it doesn’t recognize the word).

Perhaps it’s my location, but were it not for this board, I would never have encountered the word. Does anyone actually use it in spoken conversation?

I have. I used it at Thanksgiving and made my aunt do a spit take. Someone other than her knew that word! And I’m pretty sure she’s not a doper, so that word is prevalent somewhere else as well.

I hate pets. I don’t like pet owners (those I’ve met, anyway) all that much either.

I don’t take any prescription medications.

I don’t think the members of this board, as a group, are especially smart.

I think the in-jokes here are dumb.

There are rules of cool here? Has the world itself turned upside down?

I know what you mean though.

I don’t see why it’s so important to have to proofread every single post for grammar and spelling. I think it’s pretty clear we all know the rules of the English language and would certainly use it when writing correspondence to the president of the company asking for a promotion or something. It’s a message board and while giving everyone the benefit of the doubt that they do actually know all the rules of grammar and spelling, don’t think they are any less intelligent if they fuck up. As long as it gets put down, what does it matter? I never capitalize anything. I never have in casual interweb conversation. I do here now because you people are insufferable and call me a tard and won’t listen to me if I don’t.

I definitely am anti-smilies and in-jokes. I make a sour face whenever I read anything about Og, sheep, goats, death rays, saying hi to Opal, or bacon salt.

And if I haven’t said it enough, I really hate the big toothy grin green smiley. I want him banned. I tried to start a campaign but no one joined in.

I don’t read fiction.

I don’t like having pets in the house.

McDonalds is a fun place to take the kids b/c it makes them happy.

I am a law and order kinda guy. If you know that acting like a jackass might get you pepper sprayed or tazed, then don’t act like a jackass. If you don’t realize that you are being a jackass when you are acting like one, you probably deserve to be pepper sprayed or tazed anyway.

I like sports.

Gotcha. It’s best if I keep to myself on Mondays.

Interesting idea though.

I don’t give a crap about what anyone thinks is “cool”, and therefore don’t know or deeply care about what cool rules I may or not be breaking. Therefore, I shall just list some random junk and leave it to others to decide how cool I am.

I liked Willow and Waterworld.

I liked Star Trek: Deep Space Nine better than Babylon 5.

While I do think Firefly is the finest science fiction series ever, I think there are some inconsistencies in the way Kaylee’s character is portrayed.

I like Star Wars and Star Trek about the same.

I play a lot of D&D, specifically the Living Greyhawk and Ptolus settings.

I liked the movie Starship Troopers, despite its nearly complete lack of resemblance to the book.

I can identify any random clip of Star Trek: TNG with about 90% accuracy.

I liked Firefly better than Buffy better than Angel.

I liked the Ghost in the Shell movies better than the GitS: Stand Alone Complex series.

I hate coffee.

I don’t understand the appeal in going out to a club and getting hammered.

Philosophical debate is an utter waste of time.

I really don’t like Curb Your Enthusiasm.

I play PC and console games about equally.

I have a Second Life account.

I went to see Golden Compass just to see armored polar bears.

I thought the Yoda - Darth Tyrannus fight was both awesome and stupid. Awesomely stupid? No, it wasn’t awesome in it’s stupidity, but awesome and stupid simultaneously.

I’m a big man who drives a small car.

I don’t like rap as a genre, but there are a number of songs I do like. I usually find Random Rock Station much more tolerable than Random Rap Station.

I know how to sew a little. I’m a dude.

I really hate Internet abbreviations. Whenever I see YMMV, IANA_ IMHO, and the like, I have to stop and think what the hell it means.

I think Bush is smarter than he lets on. Not that he’s a genius or anything - That’s Cheney’s department (subtype: evil).

iPods and iTunes suck.

The only sports I really like are the Olympics and X-Games.

I think video games can be art. Not all of them are, or even most of them, but there are a few I think qualify.

I can’t get particularly excited about the Internet.

In general?

See sig.

I use smilies regularly. And I have often typed LOL.

Eh…sure, why the hell not. ( )

I also like Starbucks. I don’t order the blended drinks all that often since they’re fairly heavy, but the coffee is good and the shop is comfy when I’m looking for a place to kill time between jobs. The frozen drinks (especially the non-coffee ones) are nice in the summer.

I am a fair-weather Patriots fan. I like them because they’re winning so much and will only care about them for as long as they stay undefeated. If they hadn’t made it to 6-0, I wouldn’t even know what their record is right now. My sincere fandom is reserved for the Red Sox, with maybe a little left over for the Celtics.

I never really got into Futurama. I like Family Guy and South Park a lot more. Beyond that, I’m not really into TV anymore. Despite my location, I’m not into anime or manga at all.

I don’t really like science fiction. I’d rather read science non-fiction.

I live in what is apparently a yuppie condo, in a yuppie neighborhood, and I like it. According to some here, this means I am incapable of acting on my own volition or thinking of anything beyond material possessions. Shrug.

I never read Lord of the Rings, never saw the LOTR movie, and don’t really care about the fantasy/adventure genre.

I’m not sexually attracted to overweight women.

There are some chain restaurants that I enjoy. I like the food at Olive Garden, especially their addictive breadsticks. Unlike most Dopers, eating at Applebee’s isn’t an act that induces vomiting in me; although the food there is not great, I don’t think it’s as bad as most Dopers make it out to be.

I don’t believe every aspect of life in the United States, from culture to cars to food to people, is far inferior to its equivalent in Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

I’m not opposed to avatars and some other tastefully applied extra features on the SDMB. It’s not Craigslist or some BBS from 1987, for cryin’ out loud!

I don’t think that “indie” is always necessarily superior to “mainstream” or “sellout”.

My esteemed self most kindly believes very much that Indian accents are very very funny please, and not sexy yarr.

You mean he hasn’t gone away?

I am conservative in most things (little c conservative). That is enough to keep me from the cool kids table around here.

And I’ve never opened a MMP thread.
