Come out of the closet: What SDMB rules of a"cool" do you break?

I can understand why people are anti-Starbuck’s due to the trendy long lines and the fact you can generally get coffee cheaper and subjectively better elsewhere, quicker, but hey, at least Starbuck’s is predictable, but what’s up with the Disney thing? I’ve never noticed a rabidly pro-Disney cool kid bias around here.

Okay, I love the Kingdom Hearts video games, but I’m mostly a Warner Brothers kind of guy.

I think Richard Dawkins was a hack writer, and has contributed little to the field of evolutionary biology. His “meme theory” was especially ludicrous.

I have a dim view of the entire field of Evolutionary Psychology.

I don’t believe that this board consists of the smartest folks on the internet, or anywhere else. If anything, the folks here are pretty average and typical. The moderation of this board is what sets it apart for the most part, not its members.

I don’t believe that human life is sacred. Not even a little. The only thing that adds any value (to me) to any particular human life is my degree of attachment to them. If I don’t know you, your life is worth no more or less than any other animal’s, whether you are a fetus, a small child, an old person, or anything in between. I do, however, respect life in general, so I’m not likely to go any multi-state killing sprees anytime soon.

I think there are too god damn many people on this planet.

I don’t think books are even a little sacred. Burn them, write in them, tear pages out of them, use them as toilet paper, whatever. I don’t care. Doesn’t bother me in the slightest. The only exceptions would be if a given book is the only one in existence, and then only for its possible historical value. The ideas within those books will always transcend the books themselves. And not all of those ideas are worth having around anyway.

Um…this is how uncool I am. I hesitate to ask, but what’s “meme”?

That’s the consensus here by a large margin. There are threads discussing the episodes every week, but you also find people saying “that was the worst one ever” “why won’t this show end?” “I stopped watching years ago and didn’t see this one but I bet it sucked” in a lot of them.

I’m at times a total hypocrite, and manage to sleep at night anyway.

Basically a meme is any little thing that goes around. Like “When come back, bring pie” or purity tests or pictures with the caption “Im in ur _____ ___ing ur _____”

Man, can this guy suck up, or what?

Sometimes I think some threads are boring unless some troll-like person shows up to give the rest of us someone to attack. The more ridiculous the better.

I rarely go anywhere near Cafe Society because I don’t understand the appeal of whole threads on TV shows/movies etc, even if I like the shows or movies being discussed.

I read LOTR as a child and loved it. The movies bored me stiff.

I am not open-minded at all about people who don’t tip. Even if they have a valid reason sometimes.

I do not care about things on a grand scale, which is why I do not ever read or post in GD.

I declawed my cat and I am not sorry. (I even posted a thread about it, and I have to say that the Dopers who responded were positive about my reasons, which really surprised me.)

I text-message, sometimes obsessively.

I never know what to say when someone posts about something truly tragic, so I have never posted anything in those threads.

I go through phases were I check SDMB every day, and then phases where I don’t visit for weeks.

I don’t patronize very many local stores, mainly because I’m lazy.

I don’t think the embarrassed smiley ( :o ) looks embarrassed at all. I think he looks sleepy.

Oh, and I truly do not understand the mystique, or even the appeal, of Krispy Kremes. I think they’re horribly sweet and impossibly overrated.

~ I think the Pit is terrific and although it can bog down and get old from time to time, some of the absolutely most profound things have happened there rather than in other fora.

~ I’m shocked at the get-up-in-arms potential of some less important threads, like about body piercings, what you put in your location field or saying Og. That last one I really find hilarious because I got that from a different message board a long time ago. Further, I say it out of respect, not to be popular, because it feels much more all inclusive that way. But hey.

~ I cannot stand the nitpicking lawyerly type posts. Yes, I understand why they are done on a board dedicated to fighting ignorance, but even when someone clarifies that they’re aiming for opinions / feelings / overall layman’s gist, those shouting them down either refuse to accept this explanation or, um, I’m not sure. Anyone got a guess?

~ I don’t mind lengthy or multi posts. If I do at that moment, I simply skip 'em. I have no desire to rain on someone else’s parade though.

And I know how most everyone believes about this, but I’ll be honest here…

~ I see nothing wrong with declawing cats, unless do it without a skilled veterinarian. Also, I’ll even admit to having 2 of my own who haven’t seemed to suffer any bad side effects from it in 15 and 13 years respectively.

~ I can never remember, no matter how many times I’ve been told (I even have it written down in front of me which goes where and it still doesn’t make sense), the difference in affect and effect. I’m sure that makes me come off like a real doof, but I do try and get it right. < shrug > I guess I’ll just always have to be happy to have someone correct me.

~ I like stage directions and I like bolding other’s usernames. I hope that last one isn’t falling out of practice, although it seems to be.

~ I like Bosda’s colorful and ever-changing signatures. It might always help me to learn something new.

–no pets

–no computer at home

–love God fiercely and follow the Catholic church blindly

–try never to curse at work

–don’t watch sci fi or alt shows like Veronica Mars/Dead Like Me…etc.

–haven’t tried the White Elephant bacon salt yet

I like In 'n Out, but hate Sonic. Gross, and you make me sit outside in my car like some romantic drive-in 60’s movie? The music blaring over the speakers sucks. The burgers suck. The whole place sucks. Ate there once, never again.

I don’t like coffee or beer (or most liquors).

I don’t like pornography.

I’m an Ayn Rand fan (though not by any means a “Randroid”).

I like fast food restaurants, and Outback Steakhouse (mmm…prime rib!)

I don’t like Futurama or Family Guy.

I find Joss Whedon worship to be highly annoying.

I despise “LOL”.

The whole “Hi Opal” thing is starting to bug me. It was cute at first, but it’s gotten old.

I don’t really give a damn about most politics. Ideologically, I’m a little-l libertarian (but not a big-L variety).

Wow, I’m impessed it’s only starting to bug you. It annoys the crud out of me. It’s more than old–it’s dead, buried, and decomposing as far as I’m concerned.

But I do like to use “Og,” I think because I remember the thread that inspired it (“Og smash!”) and how funny it was at the time. Of course, that time was a while ago.

Yeah that was my reaction–“starting to??

you forgot to say
"Hey! you anti-MMP-ers! Gerroffamylawn!!

I don’t break any of the “cool rules”. I am coolness personifed :stuck_out_tongue:

Holy Moly! It is cool around here to be attracted to overweight women? How did I miss this? I mean, I know it is cool around my neighborhood, but I had no clue I was in high demand on the Dope.

Ahhhh. See, I never have watched a single show of ANY of the Buffyverse shows, so her character is all new and unspoiled to me.

I don’t think not being interested in something other people like to talk about makes you uncool. Apparently, though, believing you’re uncool makes you very cool.

I’ve never been inside a Starbucks.

I’ve never seen The Wizard of Oz.

I only saw the first episode of Star Wars. (In 1977 when I was 11).
