Come out of the closet: What SDMB rules of a"cool" do you break?

How about if you believe you are cool. Cause I do. Believe I’m cool, that is. So that makes me uncool? I hope not.

Seriously though, I think you are right about that. I think that many people believe that believing your are uncool is cool. I also think that people like being called ‘snob’. As a matter of fact, I even started a thread about it once. I find this behavior fascinating.

I think people who are snobbish about uncool people are not cool, but people who snobbish about being cool by being uncool are cool. I think. Wait…

I like reality TV and don’t think it’s the worst thing to ever happen to television.

Affect is a verb, effect is a noun.

(There’s also a noun spelled “affect”, but you don’t have to worry about that one unless you’re a psychologist.)

Instead of writing down where each one goes, why don’t you just put down some example sentences? Something like

Precisely.

Phew!

How cool is that!

Lessee here.

I’ve never watched Firefly or Buffy and don’t plan to.

I don’t think Futurama is all that funny.

I’ve never seen or read LOTR and don’t really want to.

I eat at Taco Bell quite often, and find it delicious.

I very rarely watch TV.

Cats are nice, but I much prefer dogs.

The director of the music department at my school has an old Get Fuzzy strip taped to his door where Bucky and Satchel are arguing about how to tell if someone’s cool. IIRC:

Satchel: What if they listen to jazz?
Bucky: They may not be cool. They might just be faking it.

Anyway, I think being addicted to jazz makes me uncool here, but it makes me cool in my own head. Daddy-O.

spittake Whaaa??
I mean it doesn’t make you “not-doper-cool” but I mean… how??? How do you manage to not see the Wizard of Oz at least once!?

Effect is the End result. Affect is the Action that caused it. (Dunno if that would help but it’s all I could come up with.)

Buffy bores me.
But not nearly as much as Lord of the Rings.

I don’t read “literature” or worship movies older than me, I do like glam/hair rock from the 80’s, I don’t think Bush or Chaney are evil (but that doesn’t mean I like their politics), I don’t think the Democratic party is inherently different than the Republican. I brush my teeth and shave in the shower since I don’t think you can “waste” water unless you rip the molecule apart and don’t burn the hydrogen. I don’t care what kind of health care plan Canada or Europe have. And I agree with Der Trihs sometimes.

But I dislike WalMart, Starbucks, and McDonalds!

I hate threads that go on for three pages or more, because I can’t remember from one post to the next, and don’t have the attention span to even skim all the posts. I only got to the end of page one before posting this, and I’m not about to go back and see if someone else has already said what I just said.
I’m definitely not going to preview, either.
I hate people who won’t give me money.
I hate women who won’t … (better let that one go).
I love to swear. It’s in the First Fucking Ammendment, for crissakes!
I love little kids. They’re funny. And they think I’m funny.
I have a problem with conservatives. What the heck are they so afraid of?
I like The Simpsons. Bart is the son I never had.
Peet’s is the coffee place Starbuck’s should be.
Starbuck’s coffee always tastes stale. I roast coffee, so I know fresh.
I don’t like cites and I don’t like precises either. I don’t like anything I can’t spell.
I do like mystery links, and the reactions they can elicit.
Oh yeah, I hate the “edit” function.
Peace,
mangeorge

I don’t find Starbucks at all that great. I’ll avoid it if I can, but sometimes I just need an Americano and they’re convenient.

I have never watched Buffy.

I don’t really care for reality TV.

I’m sick to death of the home improvement/decorating/sell my house type shows. I’ll watch one occasionally, but they generally irritate me now.

I’ll read the Pit, but don’t generally post there. Good rants are far and few between.

I’ve replied once or twice in Great Debates, but frankly, that particular section of the board sometimes intimidates me and sometimes bores me.

I LIKE the MMP. We’re a good group of people and always welcome folks.

Badly behaved/whiny children irritate the crap out of me. My neighbor’s kids REALLY irritate the crap out of me.

I believe everyone should say please and thank you and try hard to live by the Golden Rule. (I don’t always succeed, but I try anyway).

Ugh, upon edit, I just realized some of that sounded sacharine and sweet.

I’m not…really…

What’s the old thing the one Brit said to the other, to explain American politics? I believe it goes something like:

“Their Republican Party is like our Conservative Party. Their Democratic Party, on the other hand, is like our Conservative Party.”

Many, maybe most of the stuff listed here isn’t breaking any SDMB “cool rules”. is liking sports cool or uncool? Disneyland is considered cool here? Toilet flushing? Prescription medications? :dubious:

It has been my experience that not liking sports is uncool.

Yes indeed, pretty much all you mentioned, at least one’s response to those things, can be a measure of one’s coolness on these boards. Even whether you refer to the SDMB in the singular or the plural (board vs boards).
We are a touchy and vain lot.

Word. If you want a better donut, pick any random local donut shop. And yes, Krispy Krap lovers, I have stood in line at the minifactory and procured one fresh off the conveyor belt.

I don’t even know what MMP is. I’ve seen the threads with MMP in the title, but I’ve never read them, and I can’t figure out what the letters stand for.
