Comedy Bang Bang Anyone?

  1. Garry Marshall
  2. Andrew Lloyd Webber
  3. Werner Herzog (sensing a trend?)
  4. Dom Dimelo/Cactus Tony
  5. Ms. Lisler

There’s going to be some serious makeup effects needed if Jessica St. Clair comes on as Marissa Wompler, that might be a sticking point, either with budget or maybe just the bother.

I’d love to see Tom Lycus, especially if Maria Bamford is on that episode too. She was really amused by Lycus on the podcast!

What, no Cake Boss (Cake Boss!)

He’s a comedian by any definition of the word. He makes a lot of people laugh.
You may not like his music or his routine, but it’s totally ridiculous to say he’s not talented. Absurd, even.

I’ll go against the grain and say that I like the podcast but love the TV show. The podcast can definitely be funny, even hilarious, but can also go on too long with some bits. I do sometimes use my fast forward button and skip ahead in the podcast. And it seems like there are some beloved characters with backstories that while I’m not lost if I listen to an episode with a recurring character, I do feel like I’m missing something. There was a recent Jason Mantzoukas/Andy Daly episode that I listened to that was really funny, but I could tell they were referencing past characters and episodes and so it was harder to be fully into it.

The TV show shares some things with the podcast, but it’s definitely a different format. The podcast is more improv based, and can get super weird and silly, while the TV show is scripted and does brilliant parodies and deconstructions of talk shows, as well as other TV shows and movies. Maybe if you’re big on improv comedy, you’ll like the podcast better. The podcast is more free in that anything can happen with the improv, but the show can do more specific visual things, like the Rube Goldberg thing that opened one episode, or the episode when everything was green screened and CGI’d in. If you like the podcast or TV show, I’d recommend you check out the other, but they are definitely different beasts.

I do love Scott Aukerman. I’ve also been listening to his current podcast U Talking U2 to Me? and his older podcast Analyze Phish. They are both hilarious and I would recommend fans of his to give them a listen.

Didn’t think of the issues with Wompler. Good point. The whole stick with the Stars Program and Seth crack me up, but I doubt it could be condensed enough for the show and still work.

Damn it all.
