I used to watch a clip show on Comedy Central circa 1993, where they would
show the best bits from several different stand-up acts. I’m looking for the name of this show (and/or its hostess, but I should be able to find the rest of the info on IMDB if I find the name of the show).
I thought it was “Short Attention Span Theater,” but appparently that’s a completely different show.
Hmm, Laura’s trivia mentions “Stand-Up Stand-Up”, but the show isn’t on IMDB (presumably because it was just clips). Darnit, I think I’m looking for the hostess before or after Laura Kightlinger… but at least I think that’s the show.
Prior to the merger between the Comedy Channel and Ha! circa 1990, the Comedy Channel was all clip shows, some of which survived for a little while after the merger, until about 1993 or so. “Short Attention Span Theater” (hosted by Jon Stewart) was one and “Stand Up Stand Up” was another. I can’t remember the names of any of the others, but there were several.
So now I really have no idea which one I was thinking of, and will continue to be driven crazy trying to remember.
I remember my roommate and I watched it all the time, and there was a hostess with enormous eyes. That’s all I can remember about the show, except that it was a clip show…
One of the clip shows was definately “Short Attention Span Theater” during that time period. The orignal hosts were Jon Stewart and Patty Rossbourough. Patty left… Oh, I’d say mid-to-late 93 or so, and a different female co-host came on, as well as a slightly different format.
This sounds exactly like what I was thinking… but IMDB doesn’t have any female hosts listed for Short Attention Span Theater other than Patty Rossborough.
I seem to remember that the other co-host came on when Patty went on maternity leave, not that that may help you much more, but it might be why she isn’t credited in many places - she was meant to be just a temporary replacement.
