Original Comedy Central lineup of shows/hosts

If I remember correctly, prior to the merger between the Comedy Channel and Ha! in c. 1992, Ha! was basically all old sitcoms and the Comedy Channel was basically all clip shows. Most of these shows carried over to Comedy Central at least for a little while. I was trying to remember what all the shows and their hosts were, but all I could come up with were –

“Night After Night” – Host: Allan Havey, Sidekick: Nick Bakay, audience of one

“Higgins Boys and Gruber” – David “Gruber” Allen, David Anthony Higgins, and Steve Higgins

“Short Attention Span Theater” – Hosts (at various times): Marc Maron, Marq Overton, Jon Stewart, Patty Rosborough

Can anyone remember the other shows and who their hosts were?

All I know is I would love to see me some Higgins Boys and Gruber again.
Damn, that was a funny show.

There was a show called Onion World hosted by Rich Hall.

And, don’t forget, Mystery Science Theatre 3000 started when it was still the Comedy Channel. (Yes, I know the original original was on KTMA but you know what I mean.)

Oh yes, there was also The Sweet Life featuring Rachel Sweet.

“Comics Only” - the show about - comics only!

Paul Provenza hosted this 30-minute talk show featuring current stand-ups.

They had a running gag which involved Paul answering a phone and having the opposite side of his head explode in a bloody mess. Funny.

Well, there was “Stand Up Stand Up” with… Laura Kightlinger? Is that the right time period?

Oh yeah. I fell in love with Ms. Kightlinger at that time. I can almost bring myself to watch “Will And Grace” because of my infatuation with her. (She writes for the show, and I think acts in it occasionally).

JACK BLACK YOU LUCKY FUCK!!!

How come nobody ever brings up Short Attention Span Theater when they exalt Jon Stewart these days? Does he have a rider in his contract that no interviewer can even mention it?

I remember the show, though, and I remember how poor Patty - whom I liked a lot - could never get a word in edgewise because this other guy thought so much of himself that he would never shut up.

Guess all he needed was some structure. I bet it said that on all his report cards.

Hey, all the smilies are back!  :dubious:  :smack: :stuck_out_tongue: :wally  ;j   :o  :frowning:

Insert the one of your choice above.

I miss those early days of Comedy Central! I used to like Jon Stewart on Short Attention Span Theater, and loved how that show introduced me to hundreds of stand-up comedians I had never heard of, or just never heard until then. Those shows got me into Stephen Wright and Bill Hicks… two very different comics who became my two favorites.

I also loved MST3K on Comedy Central, and never really followed it when it went to Sci-Fi Channel and replaced Dr. Forrester and TV’s Frank.

Didn’t old Comedy Central also show reruns of Soap a lot? I also used to love catching the Robert Townsend and His Partners In Crime specials, since they featured a lot of the In Living Color actors when they were younger.

There was a game show on Ha! that carried over, but I forget what it was called.

I’ve been trying to remember the name of that show, and its host, for close to two years now. Thanks.

Clash with Billy Kimball. I keep a list of this crap!

Hard to recall CC’s original lineup. They were for a very short time called CTV. I thought “Comedy Central” was a slogan. I still feel its a dumb name.

Some notable shows from around the switch…

Dead Comics Society (Robert Klein)
Limboland
Musical Shorts
Random Acts of Variety
Sports Monster
The Unnaturals
Vs.
Women Aloud

Remember guests of Night after Night stay at the fabulous Moooooooebly hotel, now with soap.

I’m not sure this was on the original line up, but it was on Comedy Central years and years ago: the original Who’s Line is it Anyway? with host Clive Anderson. A much much superior version than the Drew Carey one that came out.

Make that “Whose”.

That’ll teach me to post when I’m barely awake and my eyes aren’t fully open yet. :wally:

I remember a talk show hosted by Richard Belzer. Can’t remember the name, but some googling leads me to believe it was either Hot Properties or The Richard Belzer Show.

Still being shown on a irregular but kinda regular basis. One of the oldest shows still airing on cc, next to Kids In The Hall.

Remember when it was almost all sitcom reruns, SNL, MST3K and good British imports? Yeah yeah let PBS and BBC America have something to show.
