Because he doesn’t give a fuck. He literally thinks that he is unimpeachable, and as it stands, he’s essentially correct. Remember, this is the fuckhole who bragged during a campaign rally in Iowa that “I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters.” This wasn’t hyperbole; he genuinely believes this. Next to that, defying the FBI director is just taking a piss in public.
[quote = wiki]
The crime of obstruction of justice, in United States jurisdictions, refers to the crime of obstructing prosecutors or other (usually government) officials.

. IMHO, and many others, a boss asking you to stop investigating them, and then firing them whey they don’t would be obstruction.
The latest news is that Chaffetz is subpoenaing the memos that Comey wrote, saying “If true, these memoranda raise questions as to whether the President attempted to influence or impede the FBI’s investigation as it release [sic] to Lt. Gen. Flynn.” [I don’t know if that typo is in the Chaffetz letter or just the reporting of it.] And, as my link shows, even Fox News is reporting on this.
You think this is the only evidence Comey and the FBI have? There’s going to be a slow constant drip drip drip of fresh and damning evidence from now until impeachment proceedings begin or Trump resigns.
Here’s another gem:
“Trump Officials on Comey Memo: ‘Don’t See How Trump Isn’t Completely F*cked”
And of course if Trump resigns then he’s a private citizen and that sealed indictment against him can proceed with a regular trial…
Wondering that myself. How is this obstruction? Please no ‘well, it just is’ response. Maybe a lawyer here will lay out the elements of obstruction and how each is answered by the facts.
It’s called "developing an exit strategy, " as in the philandering husband who sets his wife up with a young male trainer and has a private investigator trailing them to get evidence of infidelity so he can justify divorce. He aims to run for that office by distinguishing himself from his Republican brethren even though he is just as craven and intransigently disingenuous as the worst of them. That supercilious, MLM-profitting ass-lemur has no conscience and his spine is pure, Cosby-era Jell-O Pudding.
