I disagree. Trump was his boss. You can’t just tell your boss “hey, I have this sense that you’re probably about to do something inappropriate so I’m leaving …”
Now I really want to know what the “facts” about Jeff Sessions that Comey couldn’t talk about are.
"Our judgment, as I recall, was that he was very close to and inevitably going to recuse himself for a variety of reasons. We also were aware of facts that I can’t discuss in an open setting that would make his continued engagement in a Russia-related investigation problematic.
And so we were convinced — and, in fact, I think we already heard that the career people were recommending he recuse himself — that he was going to be in contact with Russia-related matters much longer," he continued. “And that turned out to be the case.” *
Child: What am I getting for my birthday?
Sibling: I can’t tell you.
Child: Is it a baseball mitt?
Sibling: No.
Child: Is it a tutu?
Sibling: No.
Child: Is it a puppy?
Sibling: No.
Child: Is it roller skates?
Sibling: I can’t tell you.
I’m not in law enforcement or anything related. But I would think if I were conducting an investigation, and the blabbermouth at the center of the thing I’m investigating wanted to talk to me privately, I’d probably want to keep him talking.
You’re missing the point that it’s not unusual for the Justice Dept to bend to political pressure. They still get the job done in spite of the pressure from Congress or the President.
Easy to say in hindsight, but how was he supposed to know Trump wasn’t just keeping him behind to ask about Comey’s golf swing, what his weekend plans were, or how much he enjoyed Celebrity Apprentice? He’s the president. Alarm bells may have been going off in his mind at the time, but what else was he going to do, run out the door with his fingers in his ears? He had a hunch Trump was going to ask him something important, and maybe a suspicion it may have been something unethical, but how was he going to know?
How long will it be before we have any numbers on viewership? I’m curious. Do the ratings make it worth having carried the testimony for the broadcast networks? How many people watch (how many are interested)? Of those that did watch, which channel did they watch (may give us an idea of political leanings)?
