Coming Attractions

I’ve been looking forward to several upcoming movies that have been in the works for a while. Does anyone have any info on when the following movies will be released?
[ul]
[li]Lord of the Rings[/li][li]Terminator 3[/li][li]Spiderman[/li][li]Superman Lives[/li][li]Star Wars 2[/li][li]Ender’s Game[/li][/ul]
Any info would be appreciated.

I’m pretty sure the Superman Lives project has been abandoned or at least put on indefinite hold. Which, while I’m a huge Supes fan, I can’t say I’m unhappy about, because last i heard they were still looking at Nicolas Cage as The Man. As much as I enjoy his movies he’s NOT superman…

1907: The Hague Convention prohibits the taking of war booty

Lord of the Rings: Scheduled for 12/14/2001 (USA)
Terminator 3: Has not yet begun production (word is summer 2002)
Spider-Man: In pre-production, targeting March, 2002.
Superman Lives: I believe this one is currently dead.
Episode 2: May 2002
Ender’s Game: Script is written but I do not believe any of the significant roles (in front of or behind of the camera) have been filled.

This site should be able to help. Go to “Film Listings” and search by name and you’ll bring up the pages of notes on that film beginning from when the idea was pitched to a studio, pretty much. The page for Superman Lives is staggeringly long. I’ve always found this site fascinating because if you read the process from beginning to end you can see the myriad of phases even the simplest film goes through.

Here’s an Ender’s Game site that talks about the movie: http://www.philoticweb.net/movie/movie.html

Like it has been said, none of the roles have been filled but when writing the script, Card is thinking of Jake Lloyd. But when the script is finished and filming actually begins (whenever that may be), Lloyd may be too old for the part of Ender.

I have Spiderman as 5/3/2004

Lord of the Rings 12/19/2001
The other two sequels will be at/around Christmas in 2002 and 2003.

Star Wars Episode 2 when George Lucas says.

Thanks! 2002 sounds like a killer year for movies. And thanks for the website, voguevixen.

There’s gonna be an Ender’s Game movie? Yeeeeeessssssssssssssss!!!

Does a happy dance!

Loved the web site, Anake, Thanks!

More happy dancing!

Don’t get too excited about Ender’s game the movie (though I certainly did) - word is they’re currently thinking of filming Ender’s shadow concurrently (for continuity’s sake) and releasing it a year later.

Which sounds like a great idea in theory but to be honest I’ve seperated these two novels in my mind now and don’t want them together ever again.

1908: Subway linking Brooklyn and Manhattan opened, Ian Fleming born

Honestly, I’ve done just the opposite. Those two novels are forever entwined in my mind. Personaly, I liked Ender’s Shadow even better, if that’s possible.

A big second-the-motion to Corona Coming Attractions, as mentioned by voguevixen. The most complete, best-organized site for information on upcoming movies on the web, bar none.

Oh, and re the Ender’s Game movie: Don’t hold your breath, at least unless you’re receiving oxygen via alternate means. I’ve read the first 25-30 pages of the screenplay adaptation (which Card did himself), and it’s really, really not very good. Yes, I’ve read the book too; I’m judging the script based on (1) how well it captures the book, and (2) how well it works as a movie all by itself. If that screenplay represents his best work, and if he insists that it be the basis for the film, then it would be better if it never gets made at all.

Well, I suppose if I must weigh in…
I’ve read part of the script too. Personally, I think it’s pretty good. It’s been awhile though, so I’ll have to reread it to see if my opinion stays the same.

As far as the movie not being like the book, understand that Ender’s game the short story came out in '78 and the book in '85. 15 years is a quite a bit of time to grow and change as a writer. It’s also a long time to reflect on what did and didn’t work in the book and what will work up on the screen. As much as I’m sure I’ll enjoy seeing Ender’s Game (whenever it does come out), I know how difficult it is to show psychological turmoil up on the silver screen, which is, at its core, what the story is about.

Now, you wanna talk a potential crapfest, I got three words for you: Crocodile Dundee 3.

Anake,

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! How could you link me to that site? OSC came to Kansas City and I missed it? I didn’t hear anything about it? Zip? Zilch. He came he left and I didn’t know until two full months later? I am so completely in a depressive funk right now. Thank you.
