Command & Conquer - Generals. HELP!

Okay, I am about to throw this game, and my computer with it, out the f’ing window! I have been trying to beat this one particular level for a week straight! It is driving me completely bonkers!

It is the last Chinese level, “Nuclear Winter.” I set my base up where the mini GLA base was in the far east corner. Before I really have a chance to get comfortable, my base is just constantly attacked; by those SCUDS, by troops at that one entrance. If I manage to destroy the main SCUD base thing, then they start bringing out these SCUDS on trucks! At about that time, I simply can not produce troops and tanks fast enough to defend my base, and I am overrun.

What am I doing wrong? Should I push out into the town as soon as I can? Am I establishing my base in the wrong place?

Does the game just hate me??

hehe, same story here mate. I finished every mission for all three sides, and the last GLA mission is tough. I finally gave up on this one though. doesn’t seem to be any way to build up fast enough to counter the onrush of vehicles , and if you do somehow manage that, which I did, just as you start to push into the city, its SCUD storm time. No joy.

You might try going online and searching for specific walkthoughs for that mission. Its been almost a year since I played C&Cg and perhaps there are more resources available to help now…

great game, but that mission oy ve

In answer to the OP, there is a certain action you can but don’t have to take which will result in the Scud Storm being deployed. Play it again and watch what happens. I think it may be deploying a certain building, but for the life of me I don’t recall which one. Basically, the strategy is to build up really fast while the enemy is light, then roll over him quickly. Not really that hard either.

Make sure you build light tanks to go along with the Apoc’s. Light tanks get rid of the Rocket Buggy’s.

Scud trucks are not really that deadly, if you have tanks. They’re really nasty against infantry.
This FAQ has a good strategy:

This implies that basically building one of every building starts the Scud storm countdown. So, don’t.

Geez this was so long ago but I do vaguely remember it. smiling bandit is right about there being a trigger; I thought it was building a superweapon yourself but I could be wrong. I found it easy to keep the enemy out of my base by controlling the chokepoints with static defenses and nuke cannons set on “target area,” Two cannons at that main choke point with staggered targets will kill everything. Can you use Black Lotus in that scenario? She is the most powerful unit in the game.

I just remembered something… don’t kill or capture All of the GLA buildings in the lower right side. leave one of them GLA, this will delay the scud storm, leaving you time to build airfields and launch migs.

ah, I’ll try and help a bit but it’s been a while since I played, there’s probably another way to do this but this is what I did:

I don’t remember the trigger for the scud storm from triggering right near the start, but your best bet is to spread your base really far apart with hackers all over the place. The comp always aims at the biggest cluster of troops/buildings I think.
With that one entrance a propoganda tower and a few overlords should be enough to hold it. Make sure you got the gatling upgrade. If they send scuds, send migs to take em out and move the Overlords back inside your base, once the launchers are gone just send them back to the entrance.
Don’t put too much grouped together in this one spot or the comp just sends the scud strom against it

Now for attacking the enemy base, all I did was guard my entrance and then keep building nuclear Silos down where you came out of at the start off the mission, when I had about 10+ nukes I sent suicide Migs to scout the enemy and sent 2 nukes at every building until the comp had nothing left. I did try an assualt with loads of units but those mountains in front of the base where just too hard to get through. Just concentrate on defending your base, spreading everything real far apart and building nuclear silos.

Also don’t forget that you should always double attacks on the GLA. One to take down the building, another to take out the GLA hole. If your going to nuke them be sure to have two ready to deploy at the same time to elimate the building completely.

Yeah! If you leave one GLA building, the computer assumes you haven’t got a base yet and doesn’t start its hidden countdown to start the Scud Storm. Building a Nuke silo kicks the computer into gear.

Oftentimes, I will group a large number of tanks to purposely draw the aim of the Scud Storm. Once the computer alerts you to the launch, move your tanks quickly out of range. 9/10 times this works… YMMV
