No, he isn’t. And he wasn’t when you removed his ability to respond and then told everyone what allegedly was in his head.
Benefit? I think you misspelled “malediction”. And what do you want me to do something about? I’m not guilty either of your misattribution or your third-hand opinion of my alleged hijacking.
Actually, it was near the end of a long paragraph in a quiet discussion I was having with Wring. And I went on to say that it was no big deal, that the universe is not real, and that there is no life in the atoms — the same thing I’ve said consistently for six years straight. You might have taken your evidence from RedFury, or one of the other screaming idjits, but certainly not from anything I’ve ever written.
Frankly, if you want to write my book, you should pay me royalties. I honestly have no idea why you suspended me. Your alleged reasons are demonstrably false and wrongheaded. You even violated your own rules in concocting them.
I’ll make the same point now that I made before the suspension — I have no intention of changing anything. The comment I made then was appropos of this post from Spiritus Mundi, advising me to be myself. It had nothing to do with the ongoing sniping from a small gallery. I offer no apology. I have no regrets. The only way I can mollify you and a couple of others is to change who I am and how I view the world. That ain’t gonna happen without some major epiphany in my life.
All you’ve succeeded in doing with this gaffe in judgment is to validate the claims of Biggirl, RedFury, and the anonymous cowards who gathered off-board to plan how to manipulate you (the proof of which you’ve either deleted or put in your hidden forum, but that I have on disk) and the rest of what they perceive as a hapless administration into getting rid of me. And spare me any martyr crap. If people really are plotting your demise, you’re not paranoid.
Maybe you thought that by suspending me, you could counter claims that I had enough pull to have threads closed and such, like the claim made by Biggirl here. For the record, Dex picked me to scold, but stressed that his comment was a general one, and that the Daily Show threads had bothered him for some time, with their unabashed political comment. So much so, in fact, that he covered the issue in his rules thread — more than three weeks after my postings ceased.
Well, what’s done is done. And you’ve left me in an impossible predicament. If I comment on any topic of any thread based on how I view the world, you can scream “hijack!”. In fact, as the record shows, you can scream it anyway. If I start new threads every time I have a comment, you make me into a Reeder, filling the forums with new threads for every little point I want to make. I daresay that you will be equally displeased when the complaints begin about that.
So, the only options left to me are three: (1) suppress myself and post as though I were someone else, (2) stop posting, or (3) post less often and less acerbically, but remain true to myself. I’m choosing door number three. In fact, I won’t be back in this thread, or even back in the Pit at all, which is where most of the board’s cruelty — including that coming from me — takes place. I’d like to have responded in the ATMB thread, but this is critical of you in your capacity as administrator, and therefore by the rules belongs in the Pit.
During my hiatus, some wonderful things happened. I got a lot of work done. I began corresponding with Dopers in calm and meaningful debates over focused issues. I got a lot of work done. And I engineered for my wife the surprise of her life, by bringing all the kids and grandchildren to our house from all over the country for her birthday.
Diva, certainly. Humble, not so much.
