Almost makes one wonder if the board keeps some sort of stats on how many times someone has hit the “report this post” button.

After my 1000+ posts I’m pretty sure my number is something like three.

I’ll bet we’d see some funny correlation.

I’ve hit it exactly once. It was in a heartbreaking thread where a poster explained why he kept a picture of his stillborn child at his desk. A kid (I hope) came in and said the most chillingly calloused thing (something to the effect of “Your baby’s dead. Get over it.”) that I actually gasped when I read it. That poster was banned soon after. Good riddance.

And that is the only time I’ve ever reported a post to a thread, IIRC.

I’ve had posters call me unsavory names and I’ve even been pitted once (unfairly, I believe) but I never dreamt of running to a moderator to solve my conflicts. For one, I’m an adult and am more than capable of fighting my own battles, or, alternatively, walking away from a thread, without someone running interference on my behalf. And, face it, if someone is calling me names, I’ve probably gotten in a few jabs of my own. If I can’t stand the heat, I should stay away from the incinerator.

Secondly, moderating is thankless and I don’t want to make their (unpaid) jobs any harder than they already are. This is just one of the many reasons that they adore me and send me expensive gifts.

Veb, my longtime friend, I acted like a jerk earlier and let my sense of justice and fairplay, ossified when I was six, speak for me and I am still somewhat angry over your warning over what I saw as a trifle. Maybe I’ll ghrow up at some time but I’m more likely to just forget about it. I hope you can do the same.
