Commercials I'm hatin' right now

There’s a commercial for Antonio Banderas’ cologne/perfume/stink oil where the band is playing some dull slow song, then he comes in and they switch to a jazzy beat, then hot latina chick (before Melanie has scratched her eyes out) comes in and the band goes back to a slow song then she and Antonia meet and dance and I swear to og the tagline was “it’s not enough to be beautiful, you have to smell good, too”. I never paid that much attention to the commecial before and I haven’t seen it since to confirm that was the actual tagline. If it was that wins my vote for one of the stupidest taglines ever. Why not say “hey, if you’re ugly don’t buy this stuff because you should smell bad to go with your ugly.”
Another one would be the commercial for the PSP where some dust balls talk about the PSP being like watching carpet outdoors. Again, I am still not sure if I heard that right because it seems too stupid for even the average advertiser.

Don’t forget the the “kid” who looks to be about 26 or so who sits on the chair asking his dad to get him a X-Mods RC car. Please?!?!? The actor is so awkward & borderline inappropriate it makes my skin crawl.

My nod goes to an ad that I think most folks find funny, but I can’t stand it. It’s the Nextel commercial that opens with 3 workers that appear to be office drones, 1 of them is holding a radio blasting “Ooh baby baby!” and the other 2 doing an awful white-guy dance to it. A guy opens the door, surprised to see his co-workers dancing and rattles off a list of things that they should be working on. They pause the song, use Nextel products to smugly satisfy the guy’s concerns in about 3 seconds, and proceed to un-pause the song & continue dancing. “Nextel…Done!” Is it the management side of me that thinks it’s annoying that these guys have this self-satisfied sense of entitlement to dance like fools in the office because their company supplied them with efficient communication devices? How about moving on to another task? There are folks who will line up to take your jobs, pal! Review time! You want raises? How about instead of a raise, I’ll give the three of you a better stereo boom box for the office so you can funk the day away?

I know. I’ve read too much into it. I just don’t like Nextel’s whole “Done” campaign. It seems to promote unlikable, smug bozos as something we should all strive to be.

It is. However, there’s a better one of these with squirrels. The ending is that a PSP is like a nut you can take outside. Unlike the dusball one, it’s mildly amusing.

There’s a series of commercials for some pizza joint (Pizza Hut? Domino’s? I don’t remember) that start out with idiot Pizza employees talking about how they wanted to make it easier to buy pizzas or something; the latest one has them rearranging families according to their topping preferences. Then it cuts to the idiot Pizza employee saying, “Then we had a better idea…” and then the sales pitch for whatever new pizza they’re offering. Yeah, I want to eat pizzas assembled and cooked by total morons. I think the agency that came up with this campaign must be the same ones who came up with the Best Buy ads where someone is looking at a product in the store, and then the Best Buy employee imagines the customer having something like a disaster happen to them because they didn’t buy a big enough TV or whatever, then it cuts back to the employee suggesting a bigger TV. That one made the customer out to be an idiot, so I’m not sure which campaign I hate more.
