Commercials You Actually Like

OK, I’ll confess. I like the Orbitz gum commercials. The perky British lady just . . . fascinates me in a strange way. She’s like Glinda the Good Aryan Witch of the (far) North.

I think what sold me was the commercial with the construction workers. The Viking chick was going on about how four out of five construction workers recommended Orbitz gum and there were four construction workers in a group smiling and happy, and one worker was just morosely standing off to the side by himself. After that, I had to tape them whenever I saw them.

The Sprite Obey Your Thirst campaign with the mother and children running in terror from the cute “Sunkissed” cartoon mascot.

The Chaz Palmenteri commercials for Vanilla Coke with the mobsters and the curious bystander.

Hey, what can I say? I’m weird. :stuck_out_tongue:

I couldn’t decide if it was the jaw line or the eyes, but everytime I see it Val pops into my mind.

I also like the FedEx commercial where the caveman gets fired for not using FedEx, so he goes stomping out of the cave and kicks the itty bitty dinosaur, then a woolly mammoth foot comes down and squashes him flat.

I’ve been enjoying the new MAC ads where the one guy represents a MAC and the other a PC. The best is when they are holding hands (networked) and the the MAC can speak to the hot new camera from Japan, who pulls out a picture from her back.

Very cute commercial and I am not a MAC guy.

OK, it’s a cute commercial, but I can’t imagine any new camera can’t connect to a PC.

This is a brilliant idea for a commercial. These crack me up, althought Hunter seems to only be there to rip his shirt off. Still nice to see him getting some outside work.

I just love Red Stripe commercials. “It’s beer! Hooray beer!”

I’m a non-drinker, but it’s the sincerity of this commercial that almost made me pick up a bottle or two, just to give to friends. “Hooray beer!”

Agree, but how they handle the situation is funny.

I really like the new J-ELLO “wiggle-while-you-whatever” commercials.

I love the music and the kid in the cow suit is brilliant.

Adding my umpteenth vote for “I peench”. I love that commercial.

And I love the “Real Men of Genius” radio ads. My favorite: “Here’s to you Mr. Bad Toupee Wearing Man! (Mr. Bad Toupee Wearin’ Ma-an!) You’ll wear that thing on your head, though it couldn’t look faker if it came with a chin strap!”

I also really like the Roaming Gnome from Travelocity, especially the most recent one where he’s flying around in a lawn chair attached to balloons to tell people the hotel pool is closed: “I’m on my waaaaaay!”

I’m pretty sure they were only seen in the Pacific Northwest, but my favorites were the trunk monkey ads.

Add me to the list of “sticking it to the man” fans.

Also, the Starbucks-in-a-can commercial with Survivor – “Glen!..Glen! Glen! Glen!”

I believe it’s for FEDX or some shipping company but it plays out in an office conference room where there’s only a manager and a gopher at a large table.

The manager mentions something about recent staff cutbacks to save money and then asks “the room” if “anyone” any further moneysaving ideas. The gopher slowly raises his hand, is called upon, and suggests using FEDX to save and increase effeciency.

Manager says “good idea”… “let’s break for lunch” and then uses to conference phone to call the goper five feet away and “yes, can we please get some lunch in here?”

I haven’t seen these for a few weeks, so I guess they’re off the air now.

I love the “Unpimp Your Ride” Volkswagen commercials starring Peter Stormare. He’s essentially doing the same character that he did in The Big Lebowski, Carl Hungus. Sending one of those stupid little ricemobiles flying through the air on a trebuchet is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen! I miss them. Mr. brown and I still say, “Ve going to unpimp your riiiiide” in a thick German accent when we see an overly-accessorized car of this type on the road.

Cellphone ad, the one with the man quizzing the salesguy about (I think) receiving incoming calls for free. He says a city name, the salesguy says yes, back and forth, until a guy who looks like John Denver pops out from behind the counter playing a banjo tune similar to “Dueling Banjos.” The two guys stop talking, stare at him until he slinks away, and go back to their conversation.

Ha! I’d forgotten about this one. I laughed my butt off at that! Only saw it twice, though.

I like that one for AIG (auto insurance) where the guy says that if you don’t save a certain amount of money with them, that his coworker will eat a live squid. There’s just something about that dude’s uber-intensity that cracks me up.

And I know I’ll stand alone on this, but I just loved that one Old Navy ad with Fran Drescher. The “Leave It To Beaver” theme with all it’s corniness had me sighing and rolling my eyes, and then, bam! that nasal laugh burst out completely unexpectedly and I fell apart laughing!

You sir have no soul!

Well, I’m a ma’am and I think my soulnessless has already been established…
But I really do like the commercials…

I love the one where some people in an office have a pinata (sorry no tilde, don’t know how) and the first guy up starts whaking the crap out of all the office equipment. I laugh out loud every time.
