Commercials you like

Today while watching a repeat of Conan O’Brien’s 10th anniversary special, I saw a commercial for Chrystler mini-vans that come with a DVD player. Two kids, a girl about 10 and her younger brother are watching the Lord of the Rings. The girl pauses it on a shot of Legolas, and a dreamy looks comes into her face, and has a little daydream about him while looking like an elf princess, until her brother unpauses the DVD. It’s so cute!

I also like the Snickers commercials with all the symptoms of hunger.

So what commercials actually entertain you?

I like the new one with Elle MacPherson that’s selling some computer product. Liked the twist at the end.

Love all the “Real Men of Genius” series of radio ads.

Hate the new MacDonald’s chicken nuggets commercials with the couple switching places in the car. Just stupid.

A few years old, but the Etrade ‘Wasted $2 million’ Dancin monkey is my favorite. Best damn commercial ever. I was talking with a friend about it yesterday. There just isn’t enough monkey humor around today.

Kind of old now, but I think that they still show it from time to time, but I loved both the long and short versions of the Snickers adds with Barky the dog.
Also, really old now, but I’m a sick freak who had to watch those Round Table adds where first the onion gets chopped in half, and then fried (or was it the other way around?) and then at the end, his little spirit waves and says “Goodbye.” or something like that.
After a few showing of that, it got changed. It must have offended a lot of people.
And finally, I loved the radio adds a few years ago for the Post Office that featured John Ashton.

Whoops, make that John Aston.

Damn!!! Astin.
There, finally got it.

I like the Hotwire commercial where the guy is in the airplane and he gets peanuts and asks the flight attendent for another. Then he steals the peanuts off the guy next to him. That is so like, so many people I know.

And EVERY single female I know likes that STUPID ZYTEC commercial with the guy and the cat. You know where the lady falls in love with the guy with the horseface and beard. That is the ugliest man. But women love it. If she loved him so much she would’ve gotten rid of the stupid cat. The ad starts out “I met…” Nice to know she just met him and already he is second place in her heart. Of course with that horseface.

I like those dogfood commercials with the little puppy that attacks the guy as if it were a rocket. Tagline something like: “Must be the Puppy Chow.”

Most Volkswagen ads from back when they were running them regularly were quite creative and funny.

Weidemann’s (sp?) Beer had some great Nichols & May ads. Long ago, though.

Although it was only a local ad campaign, two sets of commercials were big hits in these parts. One had to have moved on to other markets, since I hear that Jim Varney’s rise was a result of syndicated ads. Anyway, his Sgt. Glory milk commercials were a riot, as were his “Hey Vern” things.

The other local ads had to do with a cartoon kangaroo and this little character that came on and knocked the kangaroo out. Tagline was: “Don’t pay no 'tention to kangaroos.” (They were selling milk again!)
