I wonder if the rest of the alleged 40 minute drunkdial (assuming it actually happened) will be revealed or referred to; it’s written in such a way that they can parsel it out as needed or ignore it altogether in future episodes.
I never thought I’d say this about Chevy Chase in a sitcom, but I actually wish they’d use him more; they need to have a couple of more Pierce-centric episodes. One of the few problems with the show is they’re making him a tad buffoonish; you need to see him in his element to explain why so many women married him or how he became rich. (I gather his character is financially comfortable but significantly reduced from what he once was.) One nice thing about Chase is there’s no shortage of footage available for blipsized flashbacks to his past.
I also hope they do a bit more with Shirley. We know she’s divorced, religious, motherly but also judgmental (not to say those are mutually exclusive by any means), a bit on the ‘unstrung’ side upon occasion, and a mother, but I’d like to see her blossom or grow as a person over a few episodes as Jeff has- perhaps confront her prejudices against non-Christians.
