Community - Season 4

Hey - At least you didn’t realize it until this morning.

Or until you read it in this thread.

I was making my lunch, trying to figure out why the heck a tiger and a ham was a “couples’ costume,” and what the hell was this Abed’s wig…

D’oh!

Since the IMHO thread this was posted in got closed without proper acknowledgement, I just want to have the chance to say “What? It came up organically.” Ok, carry on.

That’s what I thought it was. I was expecting a Boo Radley gag in there somewhere. I didn’t get the Calvin and Hobbes thing right away, wasn’t even thinking about it, then it sort of it me near the end of the show.

Ditto…

When I first saw Abed in that blonde wig I thought he was supposed to be one of the Bazooka Joe characters. But then with Troy in a tiger suit it quickly dawned on me that Abed was Calvin.

I liked Annie’s intro as the “ring girl,” with the Dean’s appearance as the punchline.

I liked this episode a lot better than last week’s, especially when Troy said he wasn’t allowed in the room.

" Probably the library, that racist bastard."

I laughed out loud when Troy cried, “I broke the remote. Do you think it’s expensive?” but that had more to do with Donald Glover’s genius delivery than the actual script.

Pierce’s house is awesome.

Seemed to me that Pierce’s house was just the set for Greendale redressed, and that was part of the joke.

It also reminded me of the music video for Ghostbusters.

Oh shit, it is! It reminds me of “That’s So Raven.” I was caught off-guard when I realized that I knew my way around the high school. It was like when I saw a moment of the movie Lucas and said, “Hey! That’s my locker!” The difference being that Bayside High is fictional and Arlington High was real. And I didn’t have a locker at Bayside.

Heh. I’m even worse…at some point I thought, “Is Abed supposed to be Calvin? Nah…” I didn’t even get the Troy-as-Hobbes bit until this thread.

I’m beginning to suspect that Chevy Chase ate Dan Harmon. Looks like he’s put on at least 50 pounds of spite-fat.

I am reluctant to like Community again because I know it will just go away again and I’ll be left feeling used, but I moderately enjoyed this episode.

At first I was thinking “Linus” for Abed but then I connected the Tiger and the blonde hair. I kind of like they never took the time to mention it.

ETA: ratings sank like a stone but that could be a Valentine’s Day effect. Probably not though. I for one have liked both episodes of this new season.

I had no idea until now that they were Calvin and Hobbes either. I thought Troy was Tigger and I had no idea who Abed was supposed to be. I loved the episode just like I always do, and although it was still far-fetched it was wonderfully so.

I have introduced no less than six people to Community via the internet. Why does nobody seem to know what the show is even about? Are there no commercials for it? I don’t have a television, just the internet so I don’t know why it’s not more popular. I understand the dip in ratings. Hell who knew it was even coming back on other than online? Every single actor on the show is amazing (I loathe Chevy Chase but I guess he plays how Pierce is supposed to be played). The dean is my she-ro. I love his attitude, his costumes, his creepy crush on Jeff. I love that Britta is beautiful and quirky and a little silly but not the standard dumb blond. I even like Chang, or I did before…or at some point during… his change. Crazy Chang is good. Insane Chang is not so good. But this is a great show! Why is it not more popular?

I’m still not feeling it. I didn’t really even chuckle at anything in the episode. Somehow it felt like they were going through the motions.

Certainly an improvement. The first scenes were still trying to hard, but they settled down and stopped trying too hard.

Loved Shirley and Troy’s reaction to the dungeon.

Contrary opinion: I thought the first episode was okay, not great, but not much to complain about. The fake-sitcom thing has been done. Britta and Troy in the fountain was interesting on a certain level. I usually don’t like the Dean stuff, but this time it worked.

But the 2nd episode really blew. A lot of trite and obvious stuff. Most of these people (not just Abed) would have been genre savvy enough to have behaved quite differently. Felt very artificial, even by the generous rules of Community.

And I miss the study room (and Star-Burns).

Needs more Vicki, less Fat Neil.
