community-wide codependency?

i find myself in an interesting situation with an online community that i’ve been involved with for several years. long story short, i’m wondering if there’s a more technical term for what i’ve been thinking of as “community-wide codependency.”

i’ve done some research on codependency as it pertains to individuals, and i find that many of the traits and concepts apply to this particular community. i have yet to find anything about the notion of intercommunal codependancy.

any thoughts on this? anyone have any suggestions as to where to look for information about this? i don’t know if such a thing is even recognized within the psychological field.

Ah, I see that with only 10 posts, you don’t spend much time here, Magpie. :smiley: So you want a technical term for “community-wide codependency”? Try “message board addiction”.

One of the biggest complaints over in MPSIMS is, “Help! I’m a SDMB addict! I have no life!”

I run down this list of codependency characteristics, and yep, they all apply to the SDMB.
