I’m proud of my signature, as it identifies my as both a Weezer fan and a computer nerd. That is, if it makes sense. I took a phrase from a great Weezer song, “Hash Pipe”, set it in the ‘weezer font’ Century Gothic, and obfusticated it a with symbols.
But it only works if these symbols are called what I think they are. The # is called ‘octothorpe’, ‘pound’, simply ‘the number symbol’, and IIRC **‘Hash’. **
nothing makes sense since they decided to make SDMB a pay-per-view.
Am i being bitter?
As long as it makes sense to you, be happy.
The SDMB is all about making people try to figure you out. (Or not)
DrMemory, this thread isn’t about this board going pay.
Teelo, I would have like to make it from a ‘classic’ weezer song, but with hash pipe it works (or not.) People enjoy different things, and I enjoy that song. I’m sorry if that offends you.
It works fine…requires a bit of thought, which I like. My thought process went something along the lines of “I got my pound pipe? Huh? Ohhh…wait, # can be called a hash mark…hash pipe…yeah, I geddit.”
No, you were more than a little incomprehensible. and even if you don’t care, is it worth your time spraying hate around? Maybe if this bothers you so much, you shouldn’t have clicked into a thread identifying itself as completely selfish.
Thanks Tijuana_Golds, harmless, and Hal Briston. Harmless, good idea, I’ll just link it to weezer.com.
Makes perfect sense to me. The octothorpe is indeed called “hash,” and the vertical bar is also called “pipe.” I probably wouldn’t have figured it out without an explanation, but it’s very clever.
I wouldn’t have gotten it, as I’ve never heard a # called a “hash.” I’d say a good number of dopers probably have though. So maybe just include a link to this thread in there as well, and that way people can check the answer if they don’t figure it out on their own.
hmm.
I just figure, since my post goes all the way left and right, my sig should too. Anybody else have an opinion on this matter? I’d change it right away if more people feel like that. Thanks for the input, FilmGeek.
Well if you hadn’t included the Weezer symbol i wouldn’t have got it, before i noticed i read it as ‘I’ve got my number 1’ but realised instantly when i saw the =W=. I like it.
Teelo, the rolleyes smilie is typically used to indicate sarcasm, disdain or condescension. I would recommend the “winkie” smilie next time to indicate humor or joking.
