What does your sig mean to you?

I see some dopers have really funny sig lines and some have sig lines that I just don’t get. What do your sig lines mean to you. I’ll start(isn’t that generous). I am a big Spaceballs fan and this a line from the movie. Okay, your turn.

I just really like the quote .

How true. Unfortunately.

It summed up my opinion on others’ opinions of me.

Mine serves two purposes.

First, it’s funny and it’s politically incorrect, and has never failed to raise a laugh from anyone I know in real life.

Second, the thought appeals to me, because I’ve always been a sucker for big tits

I mentioned that I ‘needed’ a sig, jumping on a bandwagon, and the fact that someone actually noticed that I existed when I still had less than 20 posts under my belt made me feel obligated to use it. Plus, it’s cute and somewhat accurate.

First of all, it’s got nothing to do with Prince Henry Sinclair and the brothers Zeno.

Zeno was the ancient Greek philosopher who came up with a set of paradoxes that embodied the Greek concern with the mathematical concept of “limits”. This bothered them immensely, and they were always seeking a logical way out of the issue. Today we gloss over this topic. I suspect that most of us simply don’t consider the difficulties, rather than having the insight to make a mental leap the ancients did not.

In any case, Zeno said that a turtoise could never GET anywhere, because before he got there he’s have to cover half th distance. Before he completed the necessary half, he’d have to go half of THAT distance, and so on. So you could see that he never would get to where he was going. The point of the paradox is, of course, that tortoises don’t know this, and DO get where they are going. So clearly there’s a fault in your reasoning.

I was talking with a friend and we fell into a “scene”. He started playing a classical Greek receptionist, and I was the philosopher.

“Sir,” he said, “There’s a Mr. Zeno to see you.”
“Tell him to come in.”
“Well, that’s just it. He Can’t.”
“Tell him I’ll meet him halfway.”

It wasn’t planned. It just slipped out, but I loved it. I haven’t had an excuse to use it until I had to come up with a sig line.

I change my sig often cuz they’re usually quote I like or make me laugh or I think apply to me right now… the one I have now I just use cuz I think its neat… When I first showed up though I had a reeeaaaaaalllllyyy long sig and it bugged people till it was pointed out to me… so I fixed that… which reminds me… I think its about time to change the sig again…

just taking things day by day. my sig is a thought i process daily, keeps me somewhat sane.

I work in a minimart.

In the wee hours, holding the fort,as it were, I feel like a hero.

It means I’m a freaking horny chick. And I need a WOMAN.

Ayesha, are you interested? (wink, wink, blows a kiss)

My latest sig was a quote from an A&E show about William Wallace. I found it to actually be quite hilarious, considering its context and how it can be taken–and I think it fits well with some people I’ve seen in my lifetime, and perhaps the rationalization they put themselves through before they open their mouths…

Well, the second part is simple: Arkon is my online persona and ‘Dark Lord of Chaos’ is his title.

“Fear not for flowers that bloom in the night, we are stronger than we seem.”

This part is a bit odd. It originally came out when one of my aquaintinces, speaking metaphorically, asked: ‘can a flower that blooms by night can survive being the light of the world?’ (5 Vorlon points if you know where this converstation took place). The quote tells both my answer and how I know.

I just have a big collection of sigs that I rotate. I switch out every 3 to 4 weeks or so. I just pick them because I think they’re funny. They have nor eal significance.

It is my favorite Simpsons line.

But, I tend to rotate sig lines frequently just to keep it fresh. Basically, if I here a line I like I will blatantly steal it to serve my sig line needs.

And, major kudos to Mr. Cynical for using a quote of mine in his sig. I’ll buy him a drink if we ever meet.

Hey Chris25, can you send me the pictures of you Aeysha? ALso, if you ever need a MAN, I’m him.

Yeah, baby, yeah.

It is more of an attitude and a way of life…

(I really should read it more often)

It is, of course, a quotation from Voltaire, and also the epigraph for John Ralston Saul’s Voltaire’s Bastards. It translates as “Let us shove aside these novels we call systems, and to raise ourselves up let us descend into ourselves.” It means subordinating rational structures and systems to the needs of real humans, in effect making the Sabbath be for Man and not Man for the Sabbath, as it were.

I said it in the post on Catherine Zeta-Jones’ pre-nup agreement, then repeated it to a friend when explaining the conversation to a friend.

She thought it was funny & suggested I should use it as my sig.

For a while I thought about using Marcus’ quote about the reassuring nature of the general hostility of the universe (from Bab 5), but it was much too long.

I also thought about using: “Where are we going…and why am I in this handbasket?”, but decided it was trite.

However, I am always in the market for a better sig.

Mine? As a rule, it’s the way I feel. Usually the second half of the sentence just about says it all. :D:D
