So I need a study guide for the CompTIA A+ program. I’m not spending ~$1500 on something I’m fairly confident I can pass on my own. (But at $158 for the test I’d like a bit of a boost.)
So I found these 2
and
The first looks more promising, but just not sure. Also, I heard the test was to be updated at the beginning of the year, so these may be out of date by now.
Any recommendations? Something I haven’t found yet? I’d like to keep it under the $50 range. Any suggestions are welcome.
Are you convinced that the rewards of having an A+ certification are worth it? That cert has not been well regarded in the past, and though that may have changed, I would pursue a good number of other ones before I would go to A+. Just MHO.
The test has not been updated yet, but the change is coming. I always use Exam Cram books, after I have taken the relevant classes pertaining to the exam. The Exam Cram series let me know which areas to focus my studying on.
When I went for the certification, back in the dim and distant days of 2000, I used an older edition of A+ Certification for Dummies. It worked perfectly well, but I was also in a study group with my high school PC tech teacher. The best advice I can give you is to read the book, make up some flash cards to go over with friends, and do some serious mucking about with your computer if you aren’t already. (Though I can’t imagine that’s the case).
When I took the exam, the hardware-identification questions used really bad drawings, not photos. If they still do that, it’ll be something you have to get used to - I think the dummies book comes with practice tests, so that should help.
You’ll be fine - you don’t need to spend money on a prep course, and the test just isn’t that hard. That said, I’ve got to echo what another poster said - are you sure you want to bother with the cert? It really doesn’t do that much for you.
