Is there a way to set up my spellchecker so that it can correct misspellings and odd punctuation in an entire foreign word or phrase, such as “Gotterdammerang”, “je ne se qois”, “Fend kiling dorong leh warrata ka iteh tee”, and “Cote d’Ivorie”?
Microsoft word:

There is a menu of languages you can use. I know this only because I edit (English) manuscripts that are submitted from foreign countries. I reset the language to United States English. It detects as misspellings the British spellings of certain words, such as “politicise.”
Most spellcheckers allow you to add words to a custom dictionary. Word certainly does. I don’t know about phrases though.
I do use Microsoft Word, and while that might work for European languages, some African and Native American foreign words I want are not available in the language database.
For example, “Fend kiling dorong leh warrata ka iteh tee,” is a saying from the Gambian dialect that means, “Behold, the only thing greater than yourself” – which you may remember from reading or seeing Alex Haley’s ROOTS.
There are some other words I want to change punctaution for. When I type Cote d’Ivoire, I’d prefer to see it typed as ‘Côte d’Ivoire’, with that accent mark over the “o”. So far, I can’t figure out a way for the computer to change it. I was able to type in ‘Götterdammerung’ so I’d get the dots over the “o”.
So is there a way to set up the custom dictonary so that it can check/correct the spelling and punctuation?
Askia, I believe you are asking an unclear question and getting confusing answers so I’ll try to see if I can explain what you are trying to ask and please correct it if I am wrong.
I think you are mixing two things: languages and correcting (accepting) entire phrases.
My explanation would be that a word processor will recognise only individual words so “dorong” is either a valid word or it isn’t, you cannot say it is only valid in a certain context.
Others have explained how to add custom words to your spellchecker and how to change languages. If you do a search you will find several threads where similar things have been discussed.
I hope this helps
