Computer games for kids

I’m sure we’ve done this before, but if so I can’t find the thread.

Looking for good educational games for a 3 year old, for mac or PC. Preferably stuff that’s not maths/literacy focused, 'cos they’re easy to find with googling, and it’s not our current educational target anyway.

In particular, if anyone knows of any that focus on grouping/categorisation (eg, put all the animals together, put all the veggies together) I’ll be your fan for life

Starfall.com is what my son used at that age. Good luck!

No need to install anything - little kids are perfectly happy with online Flash games. Check out these, for instance.

We went to our library and found a number of older games we could borrow. Pajama Sam, or at least the first 3, were a hit with my boys.

Oh, I LOVE Pyjama Sam. And so does the Small Boy. Rest assured, there are plenty of Humongous games on our playlist ;). But he can pretty much do all the ones we’ve currently got (partly from watching his sisters, I’m sure). We have a lot of Putt Putt too.

I’m pretty much over Flash games though. Sorry! They always take a million years to load, and have ads all over them. I’d quite like to be able to disconnect the internet on him while he’s playing games too.

TBH, mind you, that’s not a bad site. At least, it’s got Bookworm Adventures on the front page which is, in fact, an excellent game.

I’m not sure what the rules are on joining just to promote a website if you post your promotion into a thread in which it’s actually relevant.

On the flip side, it’s now ALL MINECRAFT ALL THE TIME at our house, we have to practically pry the kids off the computers with a crowbar to get any stuff done ourselves.
