Computer Help Needed

I use Windows ME, IE 6.0. About a month ago I installed Mozilla because my wife wanted to try it out. Yesterday she told me she didn’t like it and I could get rid of it. I removed Mozilla using the Add/Remove Programs. Now I have a couple of problems.

  1. If I try to open any shortcut that I have put on my desktop or try to open a Favorite from the start menu(Favorites do work if I use the Favorites drop down menu when I’m on line) I get this message:

    Program Not Found
    Windows cannot find PROGRAM.exe
This program is needed for opening files of type ‘URL:HyperText
    Transfer Protocol’

  2. All my scanned photos( I am a amateur photographer so I usually have dozens of photos stored on my computer) reverted to PhotoSuite images. The problem is I haven’t had Photo Suite on my computer for over a year. Photosuite was uninstalled when I installed my new scanner a year ago. If I double click to view a pic I get I get an “Error, cannot find PhotoSuite.exe.” I can still view the pics using the Open With option when I right click.

If anyone can understand what I just wrote, I would appreciate any ideas you can come up with.

Thanks.

  1. When you use Open With there should be a checkbox for Always use this program to open these files. Check it and select the program you want to use. It should re-associate the file type with the program.

  2. is trickier. The first thing I’d try is going to Start|Settings|Control Panel|Internet Options|Programs and checking the box for Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser. Open IE and see if it asks to become the default.

If that doesn’t work then you may have to go to Folder Options (also in Control Panel), select the File Types tab, and manually change the associations for HTML and URL files.

Thanks, Number. Your answers worked like a charm. I owe you one.
