Computer mouse for people with big hands

I’m happy with the features of my Apple wireless Mighty Mouse, but one thing drives me crazy. I have large hands (most “extra large” gloves are too tight on me), and it’s a small mouse. I can’t comfortably use the buttons on the sides at all because I get cramps from twisting my fingers back that far. It comfortably fits my kids’ size “small” hands, but it’s just too tiny for me.

So, large-handed Dopers, what mouse do you use? It must be optical and have at least two buttons and a scroll wheel. I’d prefer it be Bluetooth (I’m using it on a Macbook Pro) and have the scroll button like a Mighty Mouse (I like being able to scroll sideways). Everything else is optional.

I had alogitec V270 Which worked fine in my big hands, but dropped it’s bluetooth connection every minute or two, online research indicates this is not an uncommon problem with that model.

I replaced it with one by Anycom, which is not big hand friendly but seems to maintain it’s BT link reliably.

This tracball big enough?

Here’s the page for all the tracballs.

Yeah, I would just skip mouses all together and go for one of the big trackball things. They have all the buttons and micewheels and everything, and tend to be fairly large.

One thing I’ve noticed is that stores like Best Buy will have 5-10 mice out on display. Might be worth your time to go to a couple electronics stores and see how the mice feel in your hands.

I haven’t tried a trackball in 20 years. I’ll have to give that a shot. The old ones were very thick and wouldn’t fit in my laptop case, but perhaps the newer ones are thinner.

Yag, unfortunately our local electronics store has all of the mice in boxes so I can’t handle them. Next trip to a bigger city I’ll check that out.

I have (off the scale) big hands and I find that finding a big enough mouse is impossible, so I use a really small one. I handle it with my thumb and pinky finger, sensitvity settings maxed, so I don’t move my wrist at all.

[Sylvester the Cat] Giant Mouthhe![/Sylvester]

At the Computer Museum in Boston, until it closed a decade ago, they had a giant working tracball big enough for kids to climb on in the “walk-through” computer. (The working computer keys were about a foot square). I think they opted for a Tracball because they were afraid of kids running each other over with a Giant Mouse.
The Computer Museum is now gone, but the Museum of Science has its assets. For a few years the giant keyboard keys adorned the walls of the computer exhibit at the MOS, but they’re gone now, too. Presumably the Giant Tracball is in storage. Maybe you can buy it from them.
