computer part Q: Any motherboard that will take an AMD 1900+ CPU and 133 SDRAM?

I’ve been offered an AMD 1900+ CPU by my cousin who is upgrading his comp, and I’d like to take it. However I don’t want to spend more than a small amount of money so I thought I’d just need to buy a new motherboard and then transfer all of the parts from my computer over. The snag is that I’m using PC133 sdram. All the newer motherboards do not support this type of memory and I REALLY don’t want to buy memory on top of a new motherboard.

Does anyone know of any older motherboard that WOULD support that processor and my old memory? If so, can you please tell me what it is?

Check out this site, where I discovered that your CPU multiplier is 12.0x, and the CPU clock speed is 133. This is extraordinarily lucky, since you’re much more likely to find a board that supports your CPU right off the bat. You should be able to find a whole bunch of slightly-older motherboards with a KT133a chipset. They’ll support CPUs that pretty much top out at 1900+ (see how lucky you are?) as long as they have the most recent BIOS update. Look for something made by Shuttle, Gigabyte, or another reputable manufacturer.

Here’s Gigabyte’s stable of motherboards that use that chipset. Check out their manuals and poke around to find out which ones support your new CPU.

Another option would be to go ahead and buy a slightly newer board with a KT233 or KT333 chipset (room to upgrade and all) and offer to split the price of new, top-end RAM with your cousin. You split the new RAM cost with him, and he gives you his old RAM. He gets an upgrade and so do you. I’ll take the spare PC133 as a commission.

brilliant thanks!
