I recently ran a repair on internet explorer 6.0 in the add/remove in the control panel and now there is no listing of it any longer in the add/remove section.
Whats that about and how do I get it back?
IE is still on my computer because I’m using it now…
Any suggestions how I might have caused this?
Or how I can get the listing back in my add/remove list in the control panel?
Restore is only for XP. Since the OP didn’t specify an OS, that’s not really very useful advice.
In anycase, for all Windows OSes from 98 and up, IE is an integral part of the OS itself, and can’t be removed without jumping through hoops. What the repair does, among other things, is re-integrate the IE installation and, if you upgraded to IE 6.0 from an earlier version, removes the uninstall information. IE is still fully intact, you just no longer have the option uninstall it. Dumb, yes. But that’s Microsoft.
You’re talking about restoring from a backup, which is assuming he bothered to make one. I was referring to restore points which are much simpler and would work for the OP if he has XP. I think Win 2k also has that feature.
Many thanks I shall try those suggestions.
I am working with win98
but I am still noticing that the toolbar on the top of it has changed the format any suggestions on how to get it back to normal layout also.
Exactly how has the format changed? You can change the buttons by right-clicking anywhere on the toolbar and hitting Customize. If one of the bars is in the wrong position then right-click, uncheck Lock the Toolbars, position your pointer over the dotted line at the left side of the bar, and drag it where you want it.
The problem is almost certainly caused by a piece of spyware. I don’t know exactly what stoolbar is (sounds like a mechanism for accessing scat sites, yuk) but it’s listed under Spyware on the webpage for Spybot Search and Destroy. I would strongly recommend running Spybot to detect and remove spyware from your system.
