IE7 back to IE6 (not the easy way)

OK, at work we have a couple of programs that will only run on XP Pro, and IE6.
Our computer crashed, and we bought a new one. XP pro pre-installed.
Before anyone says dump IE and go to _____ that is a non-starter. It has to be IE6 accept no substitutes.
I asked the computer shop to make sure we had IE6 on it. Of course they shipped to me (several days later) with IE7. (an aside, I get really really pissed when people don’t listen to my instructions)
I tried to do an uninstall on IE7. The disk image that the computer manufacturer used had IE7 on it, so there is nothing to uninstall.
So how to I manage to get IE6 working on this machine?
Help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you’re the only one who can.

This link may help:

It looks like you’ll have to uninstall SP3 first, though:

See more links at this Google search.

I am not sure which service pack is in my machine.
One of the Google links you provided lead me to this MS help article it tells me to use spunist.exe to remove IE7
I am a little leery of using that tool. From everything I have heard, IE is tied very tightly into Windows. As far as I can tell there is no IE 6 on this machine, and I am afraid if I use that tool to uninstall it, it will kill my operating system.

However at the very bottom of your first link, I think I may have found the answer. A standalone version of IE6. Could be just what the doctor ordered.
I have downloaded the file, and it’s on a thumb drive for the AM.
Stay tuned, film at 11.
Thanks for the help, I will report results.

You could also load Firefox so that if your Internet Explorer is messed up, you can still find and download stuff. Having Firefox installed shouldn’t affect anything that needs IE6 to run.
