Revert Back to the last Internet Explorer?

Ok, the Microsoft Devils have done it now. They’re going to shove Vista down our throats, and to force us to like it…they’ve totally f’d up the latest version of Internet Explorer. Unsuspectingly, you are sent a message to download the latest version of Internet Explorer, and WHAM-O! You are sucked into a new world too strangely reminiscent of that of Vista. Alien tool bars with tiny icons, gray items that shouldn’t be in gray, etc., etc.

Life sucks, and then there’s Vista. Is there any way to revert back to the last version of Internet Explorer?

What version did you upgrade from and to? Reverting back to an older version is something that Microsoft typically does not do well. The few times I have tried it I have ended up with a completely effed up computer and ended up reinstalling the OS.

For what it’s worth, I found these instructions on the net:

How To Uninstall IE 8 Beta 1 And Revert Back To IE 7

If you decide to uninstall IE 8 Beta 1 and revert back to IE 7, you will likely discover that its entry in the Add/Remove Programs list does not offer an uninstall option, especially if you installed the XP SP3 upgrade afterwards.

This is how to uninstall it:

Navigate to the C:\WINDOWS\IE8\SPUNINST folder and then open it to expose its list of files.

Double-click the SPUNINST.EXE file to start the uninstall process.

Ignore the warning that uninstalling it may cause some of your installed programs not to work.

Restart your computer when prompted to.

When you start IE 7 for the first time, follow the directions to select your personal settings.

Run a scan at the Windows Updates site.

To uninstall Internet Explorer 7 to return to Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP

  1. Click “Start,” and then click “Control Panel.”
  2. Click “Add or Remove Programs.”
  3. Check “Show Updates” at the top of the dialog box.
  4. Scroll down the list and highlight the version of Internet Explorer 7 that you are running, and then click “Change/Remove.” (If you are running Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview - March 20 or later - it is not necessary to check “Show Updates.”)

Or now might be a good time to consider dumping IE altogether and switching to Firefox.

I second the Firefox opinion - sadly, Firefox looks more like a standard Windows App than IE 8 (or 7 for that matter). And get the IE tab add-on for the odd page that doesn’t work in Firefox.

Either that, or move to Chrome or Opera. Any of these three are much better browsers than IE.

Going back to IE6 is an incredibly stupid move. Its incredibly insecure compared to 7 or 8. Why take this chance? If the UI widgets bother you so much then switch to Firefox or Opera, but if youre such a creature of habit you’ll also have nasty things to say about those too.

Firefox + IEtab is a nice compromise imho.

If you have Vista or XP just do a system restore. I have found IE better at some things than Chrome or Firefox- I gave Firefox the flick

You dont need to do a restore. IE7 has an uninstaller under add/remove programs. That will take you back to 6 (ugh).

I thought the OP had IE 8? I unfortunately got that and just did a system restore to get rid of it.

I liked the layout od IE6 Better than 7. I like to make the bars at the top as small as possible and combine them in one line but I cannot do that in IE7 so I lose a lot of screen space for nothing but empty menu bar etc. I wish I could get back the layout of IE6. I just hate it that MS feel the need to move all the buttons and menus around every time they come out with a new version. Fuck that.
