Reverting to IE 8 or Get Me Back to Kansas!

Foolishly, I downloaded and installed IE 11. It absolutely sucks! Some may recall my previous post about the lack of a “Back” button in IE 11 (which may be specific to my PC’s security settings which I cannot change). So, I want to revert back to IE 8! Googling to find out how, the specific MS website wants me to pick what version I need:

a) IE 8 for Windows Server 2003 SP 64-bit edition
b) IE 8 for Windows Vista 64-bit edition or Windows Server 2008 64-bit edition
c) IE 8 for Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008

None of the above, Mack! What about good old Windows 7? Did I screw the pooch, Toto? Is there no way of getting back to Kansas (i.e., IE 8) for me?

Have you tried simply going to Add/Remove Programs and uninstalling IE 11? I believe the default for Windows 7 is IE8, so unless you installed IE9 or IE10 at some point, you should have IE8 at the end.

IE 8 is obsolete and completely outdated. IE11 is much safer to use and does have a back button…well an arrow pointing left to go back to a previously viewed page.

However, since you don’t like it, you might want to try out Mozilla Firefox

You might also look for a System Restore point prior to the installation of IE11, and rolling back the system that way.

Old Version seems to have it. I would also (strongly) recommend that you stick with IE 11, and not use outdated software in one of the very few instances where it affects your security.

There is a catch-22 in IE. Older computers will not support the later upgrades, and some websites will not display properly (or at all) with earlier IE versions. Most of the time, you can use an older IE on an older computer, but occasionally you will find something you cannot do, either because your PC will not support the new IE, or the older IE will not support the site. So if your 'puter is XP or maybe even Vista, you’re caught in the interregnum.

You can always go to a download site like majorgeeks and download an earlier version of a browser, you don’t even have to uninstall the one you have, it will write over it and save everything like bookmarks… But you might have to tell it to not automatically upgrade back to the latest version. Uncheck automatic upgrades before you upgrade, and the new older version willl retain that command.
