Computer question -- how can I find out what viewer I need?

I recently bought a new computer – a Dell desktop, running XP – and suddenly am unable to watch the video clips on the CBS website. I remember with my old computer I had to upgrade whatever viewer it was so that I could watch the videos there, but with the new one I don’t get any message telling me what viewer I need and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to find out that info.

Any suggestions?

From a quick search of their site, sounds like you need to download <holding my nose>Real player</> There is another freeware player that can play Real Media files - Google Real Alternative.

Media Player Classic can handle Real Media files, most of the time. And it isn’t spyware infested.

If I end up with Real Player, can I delete the spyware with my Spybot, do you think? Or is it too stealthy for that? Or is there another spyware-removal program that would do it?

I have the same setup as you & if you let me know where the website is you want to look at I can look at it & see what you need.

It’s cbs.com – I’ll confess, I have no life and want to see the Survivor videos.

Mama Tiger, you can go to this website, and download Real Alternative. I believe that will solve your problem.

Thanks, everyone, for your help!

If not, there are weekly Survivor topics in Cafe Society & Im sure they know what you can do.

I went to it & you’re right, clicking on a video only opens the same webpage again in Netscape 7, but IE 6 gave me a video, quality: not very impressive.

Yes, not very impressive, but I wanted to hear Darrah’s Boomhauer impression out of her own mouth – she gets so little time on the show I don’t think we’ve ever heard her say more than one sentence. And her accent is impressively awful!

I’ll try what’s been suggested here, and if I need any more help will ask the folks on the Survivor threads. Thanks!
