Computer Question: Text Size

I am running W98 on an IBM clone with 288 of RAM and periodically I have to go to View and reset my text size because it will have gone to smallest.

How can I set text size and have it stay there?
Thanks

Quasi

You’re talking about Internet Explorer? What version?

If you have a wheel mouse, try holding down the control key and rolling the wheel. I use this all the time to resize text in MSIE.

(this also works for synaptics touch pads with “scroll regions” enabled)

It’s IE6, and I have a trackball mouse, a Logitech.

Thanks

I hope nobody minds me resurrecting this thread, but I just cured this problem on my own computer; here is the MS article about it:
Font Size Change Is Not Saved in Internet Explorer 5

NB: It also applies to some other versions of IE (at least V6) and it doesn’t just apply to when you are using Outlook in ‘Internet Only’ mode.

Mangetout has probably got it, but if that doesn’t solve the problem you might be looking at something rather more complicated. (I once wrote a technical support article on font problems.)

The deal is that, depending on your computer, software, and video card, font size can be set a number of places. The way that they interact and override one another is complicated, so it’s best just to change your font in one place – usually at the application level – that is: in your word processor, Internet browser, games, etc.

The place not to mess with font size / color is at the video card level. If you’re having problems, it’s also better not to mess with font size in Control Panel > Display > Appearance. If you’ve messed with either of those, see whether you can set them back to the default values.

There’s a bit more to this, but the bottom line is not to mess with font size unless there’s a compelling reason.
