computer question

Hello friends,

I went away for a week, for work.

When I got back, I noticed that my computer screen was smaller. There is now a black border all around the area on my moniter that I can use.

I asked my wife about it and she didn’t know.
She looked around in the computer and couldn’t figure it out.
(she handles the tech problems)

But maybe I am mistaken. The screen might have looked like this all along, and I just noticed it now.

Oh. I have Windows98.
Please help me!

OH MY GOD! RUN! IT’S GONNA BLOW!!

Um, well, okay. It’s NOT going to blow. However, if you mess around with the monitor controls (where they are exactly depends on what kind of minotor you have), you will find a way to make the picture bigger or smaller to fit the frame bettter.

TIME ELAPSED SINCE I QUIT SMOKING:
Six days, 14 hours, 41 minutes and 21 seconds.
264 cigarettes not smoked, saving $33.06.
Life saved: 22 hours, 0 minutes.

Try right-clicking on your desktop and going to properties. Then adjust the size to either 1024x768, or 800x600. One or the other should fill the screen closely.

If not, you can always do what Satan said and just adjust it to fit.

um yeah, what they said.

It’s called “bloom” when the size changes. It’s normal, and just reflects the age of one of the larger capicitors. Go and adjust it, but don’t be shocked if it gets bigger by itself later on.

Hey thanks everyone.

Guess what. I changed it. Then I decided that I liked it better the way it was.
So I changed it back.

Thank you so much. I am completely clueless when it comes to these Turing Machines.

Just so you don’t think your efforts were wasted, let me tell you this:

Answers like this is one of the few things my wife likes about these message boards.
So you have helped me maintain my presence here. I hope you enjoy my company.

OOOpps. The Steelers are on the clock. Gotta run.

Oh, pish posh. All you have to do is turn on your computer with your monitor off. Let it load. Turn on the monitor, presto! Black border, works every time.

That might be it. That’s because the monitor selection is set to “Plug & Play.” Every time Windows starts up it asks the monitor about its identity. On my system, if I turn on the monitor after the system is up I get a horribly flickering image (probably 60Hz) because Windows, failing to find out what kind of monitor is hooked up, decides to use the lowest common denominator setting.

If you’re getting horrible flicker like that, you have a setting wronmg somewhere. I routinely turn my plug and play monitor on after booting, as well as turniong it off without shutting down when I go to bed and back on when I wake up. No problems. Id poke around the control panel and see whats wrong.
