Computer=related boss flame

A month ago, I posted a bunch of flames about my two bosses – a husband and wife team that owns the company. Well, a lot more has happened since then.

Get this. I was using a tiny, handheld 486-based computer – the kind one might use for controlling an ATM machine or somesuch device. It was brand new, but after a few days, it started to act funny. Eventually, it stopped working altogether.

Now I was pretty darned sure that I had not done anything wrong with it. I always wore an anti-static strap, and I made sure not to short anything out. Still, the boss insisted on blaming me for its malfunction. “If you’re alone in a room and a vase breaks,” she said, “You should admit to having broken it! Either that, or you had better damn well PROVE that an earthquake occured!”

Oy. Does anyone else see the absurdity of that accusation?

On the plus side, I have now left the company. That’s actually an interesting story in itself. I’ll get around to telling it soon.

Can’t wait for his own computer to crash the first time. :slight_smile:

The ironic part is that her computer HAS crashed before. She has been using PCs for years.

Apparently, she figured that because this was just a compact industrial computer, rather than a standard desktop, it must be immune to failure. [SARCASM ON] I mean, heck, we ALL know that brand new electronics never fail, right? [SARCASM OFF]

Talk about being quick to cast blame. I can do without that kind of abuse, thank you very much.

You’ll get your revenge, don’t worry.
I used to work in hell (XYZ company.That’s not their initials, but close enough). When I say hell, I seriously mean it. Abusive sons of bitches, I got the blame for every computer hiccup they had, and they paid me shit.

While I was there, the president of the company bought an accounting package (one of those huge run-the-whole-company packages) that was not put in right by the VAR and was set up incorrectly. He blamed me for the ensuing chaos, even though I explained repeatedly (in writing) that he was BUYING THE WRONG FUCKING PACKAGE! He just could not imagine that I could know more then him about anything, even computers, which he had never used.

I stayed for 1 year exactly- enough time to scam free training from them and gain the experience I would need to move on to something else. I was so happy when I left I felt like I had been released from prison.

Fast forward to now: The company I work at is right next door to XYZ comp, and I still hear all the gossip. In the 4 years since I left, they have gone through 6 Network Admins. 6. Their accounting package is STILL fucked up and they got in audit trouble because of it. snicker Abusive boss #1 was fired (I actually derived great pleasure from this news) and abusive asshole #2 took over as president. Their network runs like a soup sandwich because no one knows what anyone has done to it. Totally fucked up.

I, on the other hand, am working at the company next door, and they couldn’t be happier. The network runs like a dream (because I am allowed to actually make decisions about it and run it as I see fit), the accounting system balances at all times, and the inventory is accurate. My boss loves me and constantly tells me what a great job I do and how lucky they are. (He tells the boss from XYZ company that, too now that he knows how mean they were to me). If living well is the best revenge, I’m doing it. I have my “dream job” thanks to their free training, and they have the same shitty situation they had 4 years ago, minus one employee who would have worked her ass off if treated properly.

You will end up someplace where you love your job, and those fuckwads will sit around scratching themselves like gorillas saying “I wonder what this “backup” is I keep hearing about?” Duuuuuhhhhh… People like this normally self-destruct. At least you won’t be around for them to blame it on.
