Conan O'Brian and Sam Mindener

If you don’t know, Sam’s that old guy who frequently pops up on the show and who doesn’t look like he’s had a lucid moment in 30 years.

Am I the only one who strongly suspects this guy is severely mentally ill and shouldn’t be exploited on this show?

EVERYONE on Conan’s show is mentally ill. That’s what makes it so great. Exploitation? I call it Entertainment!

Exploited? Don’t you think he’s getting paid for his television appearance? He may not be in a “sane” state of mind but he’s not a raving lunatic shouting apocalyptic mumbo jumbo.

I’m assuming you are talking about that guy who somehow makes sexual remarks in his air time. The guy who was a correspondent during the Iraqi conflict’s peak. I just remember the word “dildo” coming from his mouth and everyone dying of laughter. If this is the guy you are talking about, I don’t think he’s being exploited. It’s just one big joke.

And we’re all mentally ill…well at least those who watch Conan’s late night talk show hehe.

The first time he appeared on Conan, was that episode where Conan frolicked in New York the day after of the big snow storm.
He came across this old man, who was speaking gibberish and Conan slowly back away, and when someone random walked between them, Conan ran off.
Then he was pushing him around in a sleigh by the end of the segment.

I’d say he’s gotta be mentally well enough to rehearse and perform his bits on the show, or he wouldn’t be on it.

You think that’s rehearsal?

A friend of mine worked on a documentary on a street person much more subdued than Sam, and his movie was completely surpressed by the state government. This was in Oklahoma, by the way.

I have no idea what is and what isn’t, as far as the show goes. But I think you’d have to be a pretty stupid bunch to run a TV show on a major network and hire a guy who was completely nuts. Too unreliable, too much potential for disaster. So at the moment, I think he’s doing what he’s supposed to.

Timmy!

And he seems to be doing it well. If you could tell it wasn’t an act, then I’d be worried.
