On the Thursday, Sept. 24th Tonight Show, Conan O’Brien went up into the audience for a new segment called “Audience Plugs.” Long a staple of late night talk shows, audience-based skits are a time-honored tradition. Carson played “Stump the Band” and Letterman had “Know Your Cuts of Meat.” I’ve been watching Conan for a long time, but certainly haven’t seen all of his shows. I cannot recall Conan ever doing such a skit. Yes, he has involved the audience in “The Audiencey Awards” and has used audience members in other ways. But has he ever actually stood among the audience, up in the seats, and called on people a la Carson and Letterman?
If I could make a special request, if you don’t remember any such skit, but are a long time viewer of Conan, could you please make this known, and how long you have been watching?
Yes, he’s gone into the audience for an “Audience Talent” segment. I haven’t watched last night’s show yet, so I’m not sure if it’s the same skit.
Wiki says:
I’ve also seen him go into the audience to briefly recruit someone for a sketch, such as Desk Driving. For example, earlier this year (when he was still in New York), he pulled someone out of the audience to help him buy cupcakes for everyone.
When did the Audience Talent segment run?
Last night was a rerun because he was injured during taping. He’s fine, hit his head somehow while running down stairs.
He gots a boo-boos!
Sorry, I couldn’t help but throw that out there.
