can’t believe no one’s mentioned it yet. saw some of it sunday, then all of it on comedy central last night. haven’t laughed that much in awhile.
conan is one of the few entertainers that can get away with that self-deprecating schtick over and over and over… with most people it gets tired, but for some reason conan keeps it fresh. the “cocktail” thing had me rolling.
i was a little let down by the andy clips, they weren’t as funny as i remember.
and you can’t go wrong with triumph. they should have just shown the stars wars thing in it’s entirety. that’s the funniest thing i’ve ever seen.
I saw it on Sunday night, and I thought it was great. I was amazed by how many clips I remembered; I didn’t think I had been watching Conan for that long.
I loved Andy’s low-key entrance.
I am a little dissapointed that almost the entire show was clips, though. It would have been nice if there was actual stuff for Conan, et al to do.
I’ve only seen his show a couple of times – it’s way after my bedtime – so most of it was new to me. I adore Triumph.“That’s the last female genitalia he’s ever gonna see.” I was laughing so hard it was completely silent.
“so which one of these buttons is to call your parents to pick you up?”
I was disappointed with the lack of Triumph in the show. All he got was the last ten minutes or so. Triumph by far had more funnier clips to show, like the second trip to Westminster, his bashing of celebs at the MTV awards and more.
I think Conan will be taking over for Letterman when he decides to retire. I’ll miss Letterman but Conan is more than a good replacement. I just hope tht Conan doesn’t alter his show when it goes on an hour early…
If Conan moves to the 11:30 PM slot, Madawc, he’ll have no choice but to alter his show. I, for one, hope he stays in the 12:30 AM slot with Comedy Central rebroadcasting the show the next evening.
I was ecstatic that they showed the Stakenblochen clip. I’ve talked about that since it was first shown, but none of my friends have seen it and were starting to believe I’d made it up. It’s one of my favorite moments from the show.
It was good to see Pimpbot 5000 again, plus the unforgettable masturbating bear.
“John Tesh, Abe Vigoda, and William Shatner riding a bicycle built for three!”
And then they come riding through on the stage, ringing the bell and waving, and that was that.
Jack Black’s song and the Triumph/Star Wars clips were great too, and I was tickled by the entire band running out of the porno shop with their instruments in the beginning.
The Tesh, Vigoda, Shatner moment was priceless. The best part of it was Vigoda’s expression, a cross between abject fear that he was going to fall to his doom and utter glee at being able to be there and get that kind of reaction. Gotta love Abe.
By the way, is it just me, or is it oddly sexy when Conan says “Keep cool, my babies, be cooooool.” when the audience freaks out? The only thing better, in my book, is the “I have strings on my hips” dance. Mrwwwooooowwwr.
That was a hilarious show. Conan is the funniest man on television (well, Jon Stewart maybe, but they’re close).
Letterman has two more years on his contract. I’ll bet he hangs it up after that. He’s got a new baby coming, his health is not great, and he’s looking bored and tired. His attempt to bring in guest hosts suggests that, and he’s been hinting retirement.
Conan also apparently has two years in his contract with NBC. If Letterman steps down, CBS would be crazy to not offer the job to Conan, and Conan would be crazy not to take it. I don’t think Jay Leno is going anywhere soon. He’s a workaholic and by all accounts loves what he’s doing. I’ll bet Jay is there for at least ten more years, and Conan would be 50 by then.
Conan is also a more natural replacement for Letterman than Leno, IMO. Leno has built the Tonight Show into more of a middle-of-the-road mainstream show that appeals to older viewers. Letterman still has a younger demographic and a much edgier program. Plus, Conan followed Letterman on NBC - it’s only logical that he follow him on CBS!
