Concerts you have been to (esp since March 2020) and/or plan to attend

I hadn’t been to any event till a few weeks ago when my niece invited me to go with her family to a family concert at a local church. It was, shall we say, better than I’d expected.

I have some sort of inhibition about tying myself down to events far in advance, but this year I got myself organised to book three BBC Proms concerts as soon as they went on sale. Nothing too adventurous:
Haydn, Vaughan Williams, Kaija Saariaho and Beethoven

Lalo, Brahms and Franck

Sibelius’s Fifth Symphony, a Thomas Adès premiere and Vaughan Williams

On top of that, a small but imaginative opera company will be staging a G&S that I’m not familiar with, in an old Victorian music hall near where I live. It’s worked out that I’ll be out three nights in a row.

David Bromberg a couple of months ago at the Old Town School of Folk. Planning on seeing Sierra Farrell next month.

My days of arena concerts are well behind me.

Aww geez … I haven’t seen Bromberg is quite a while, lucky you!

I’ve seen Billy Strings several times, Leftover Salmon, String Cheese Incident and Dead and Co a couple of times.
Missed Bela Fleck at the Ryman in Nashville cause I ended up in the hospital with diverticulitis.

I last saw Bromberg a long time ago and I thought he was getting up there. He’s 76 now, still going strong.

We saw Selwyn Birchwood in a small, intimate setting. It was a fantastic night.

He was in fine form, and the band awfully tight. New album is solid.

Was weird, partway through he got into it w/ a drunk heckler. Kinda ugly.

Then later in the set, the band took turns stepping off stage for attitude adjustments - gotta admit, it didn’t improve their performance.

Last night we saw O.A.R. and Dispatch at Marymoor Park in Redmond. The weather was terrific and the crowd was mostly well-behaved. Great show, I recommend this tour.

We went to see Trombone Shorty (full lineup: Mavis Staples, Ziggy Marley, and Shorty).

We saw Shorty last year, with a different lineup and enjoyed the show. This year, the starting acts didn’t have a lot of energy (Marley had a few songs that were decent but really only got anyone out of their chair with his dad’s music). And then, when Shorty started playing, rather than playing songs, he did little more than to perform a series duos with various members of his band - to show how killer they were - and, just as he finished that off, it was about time to go. I think he had one or two proper songs at the beginning and end but 80% of it was showing off.

Disappointing.

I apparently missed this thread the first time around.

I live in the Sacramento area, but I am willing to travel to San Francisco for a show I really want to see. So back in April I made the trip to The City by the Bay to see They Might Be Giants at the iconic Fillmore Auditorium. In my experience TMBG shows are always a ton of fun, and this show was no exception. And I’m glad I got to see a show in such an historic setting on top of it. But I think I’m getting too old to make the two hour each way trip to see a show that late at night. I arrived home around 1 in the morning completely exhausted.

I’ve been to 51 concerts since March 2020. I currently have tickets to 11 upcoming concerts, but I’m sure I’ll be buying more. I’m sure you guys don’t want a list, but I can provide one if requested.

What can I say? I just love live music.

Me too. I was at Metallica Friday and Sunday this weekend, and in between I saw Halestorm and Volbeat on Saturday.
Seeing The Warning this Thursday. I don’t know if I’ve been to 51 shows, but I’d guess at least 40 since 2020.

Psyched to see Rhiannon Giddens in Chicago in Sept. Getting tix comped by her bassist - yay me!
