Confessions of Bad Musical Taste

Oh, God. As I look at this list, I realize that I’m beyond help. I own so much of this stuff.

Garbage - Check.
John Denver - Check.
The Carpenters - Check.
Barry Manilow - Check.
Supertramp - Check.
Cheesy metal - Check, check.

Not to mention the afore-mentioned ABBA, Barry White, Vonda Shepherd and Titanic stuff.

::Going off to hide under a rock::

Well I have a two CD set of :shudder: I hate to admit this Gene Pitney, and my favorite songs are his duets with George Jones. What makes this worse is that I bought the two CD collection to replace a single CD set because I wanted to hear more of him…it isn’t quite in the same level of shame as having and liking Vanilla Ice, but it is my personal cross to bear.

Keith

are you kidding?! Use Your Illusion has some of the best songs in there, and it doesnt even belong in this list!!!

Can’t believe I’m admitting this…after what I’ve posted in the thread about “Top Ten Cds”. Normally I do have taste but…

I own the Journey Greatest Hits cd.

I know it’s cheesy corporate arena rock with lyrics by Hallmark. The worst videos ever made. Mullets-o-rama.

I even listened to this AFTER I saw the Behind the Music show.
I feel so dirty now.

Awright!! I love this stuff!

I proudly display my collection of hair metal: Guns N’ roses, White Lion, and I have the first Extreme album on vinyl with the other albums on cd along with Nuno Bettencort’s solo album.
I have both solo albums by Brian May from Queen, as well as Freddie Mercury’s solo album.
I grew up listening to Euro-techno-pop: Erasure, Information Society, When In Rome, etc. I bought a Pet Shop Boys tape for “It’s a Sin”
I love Rush, Neil Diamond, ABBA defined 70s pop! As a bass player, I love disco/funk like Chic
My latest guilty pleasure is Celine Dion. What a voice!

I can’t believe I’m going to admit this in public;

Bruce Willis - the return of bruno… what a voice.
Neil Diamond - I saw him once in concert even. GREAT SHOW!

I’m going to “uncool music hell”

Hmm
Let’s see I don’t own any of these, but I secretly enjoy them.
Hanson
Ricky Martin
Christina Agulara

I actually own this:
Billy Ray Cyrus - All Gave Some
Meatloaf - I’d Lie to you (and that’s the truth)
Opal - Now I Know The Secret (a kick ass Album ;))

What’s so bad about Cheese Metal, G’n’R, Rush, Barry Manilow, Aerosmith and John Denver?

Should I be ashamed I like this stuff?

Forgive me Father, for I have sinned…

Hall and Oates: “Rock and Soul, Part One” (The Greatest Hits)
Cathy Dennis: “Move to This”

I haven’t felt so sad recently as when I looked at my CD’s with the intent of getting rid of some of the dead-weight, and I couldn’t trash these. Why? I don’t listen to them any more; but, they are mile-markers…very, very pathetic mile markers maybe, but still…

And dammit, I still dig the hooks in Air Supply songs!!

I’m often laughed at for my love of Gilbert and Sullivan musicals, but I make no apologies.

Besides, it could be worse. I used to be an Andrew Lloyd Webber fanatic. For a brief, insane period, Starlight Express was my favorite (shudder).

Also, everyone MsWhatsit mentioned is OK with me, except Yanni anyway.

Well, as long as we can admit them, I’ve got a lot of Elton John, some Billy Joel, some Neil Diamond, and even some Barry Manilow somewhere. I’ve got the classical-music-with-nature-sounds albums. And I’ve got plenty of cheesy songs on various anthology albums.

But the albums I’m most embarrassed about include the following LPs (yes, I still have a turntable, too):

The Sylvers, Showcase. A disco album I won in a radio station giveaway years ago. This is the one with “Boogie Fever” on it, and it can still get my foot tapping.

The Partridge Family, Up to Date and Sound Magazine. Probably inherited these from my sister, but they’re in my collection now. I tell myself I hang onto them for historical purposes. Yeah, that’s it–historical purposes.

Frank Mills, Rondo. Yep, the “Music Box Dancer” guy. This one isn’t even as good as that, but I liked it. Guess I still do.

My very first CD - Shaquille O’Neal.

And not too long after that I traded Pearl Jam - Ten to a friend for Meat Loaf - BOOHII. I will NEVER live that one down, but I still secretly listen to Mr. Loaf from time to time.

BTW, why the hell are Rush, Guns, and Aerosmith anywhere NEAR this list, not too mention Pink Floyd and Michael Jackson???

I too own Journey’s Greatest Hits. I’m not too proud of that one, but there’s some good stuff on there. I also own Styx’s greatest hits. Again, not too proud, but even better stuff. My worst one: Dio - “Holy Diver.” I know…I know…

Hey! I LIKE Starlight Express! I have all three of the records - the original cast recording, highlights from (featuring Josie Aiello, whose “AC/DC” is incredible), and the revamped version. The original cast recording is awesome. Don’t knock SE!

I own both of those, as well. Worse, I’ve seen both bands in concert within the past year.

OMG, this was the first “grown-up” LP I ever owned. My parents still have it somewhere. I think, if I looked (which I’m SO not going to do), I could find my 45 of “Hot Line” - which was on their previous album.

HITLER’S INFERNO-IN WORDS, IN MUSIC-1932-1945-MARCHING SONGS OF NAZI GERMANY

Ah yes. My artist friend who said that he was a "member’ FOR the F.B.I.!

Except for an infatuation with Styx, my taste in music wouldn’t embarass me. Besides, I figure my Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, TRB, and Clash albums offer a pretty hefty balance on the other side of the scale, and throwing in the Goon Show, Monty Python, Doug & Bob Mackenzie, The Rutles, “All This And World War II” (Beatles songs performed by Your Favorite Artists and set to newsreel footage) will throw the rest of the MFers off. (And I like Supertramp, too!)

There was one album, however, that taught me a taste lesson in my teens: Kim Carnes’ album with “Bette Davis Eyes” on it. Taught me the foolishness in buying an album because it had one song on it you liked. That’s exactly what I got for my $5.99: one song!

Jeez, what’s wrong with y’all? ABBA and the Bangles are nothing to be ashamed of at all. Hell, I wouldn’t be judgmental even if you had a Roxette album in your collection. Decent catchy pop songs, ya know!

What I’m embarrased of is:

Paula Abdul – not just Forever Your Girl and Vibology but also … gasp … ***Shut up and Dance – the Remixes ***

Oh, God, almost forgot. Ten years ago, or so, in a moment of temporary musical insanity I bought Yanni’s Keys to Imagination Morbid curiosity, I suppose.

Superdude! Love ya!
I was sure I was the only one!
Ha, boy, we Are weird…

Aw…it’s nice to feel loved

And in the minority…
Ice Ice Baby
ba dum dum dum da da dum dum…

OK! I’ll own up:

The first record I ever bought was Limahl (sp?) “Inside to Outside”… .

And I’m proud (?!) owner of CDs by Abba, Les Humphries Singers, Boney M, Meatloaf… .
I think the best of the worst is “Dschinghis Khan” - a German band who starred at the Eurovision Songcontest in 1974 (?).

I LIKE “bad” music!!!
