I am just not having a good year in these apartments folks. My neighbor to one side of me - two shared walls in this situation - are coming over to complain and I am at a loss as to what to do. They knocked on the door one day last week asking me to turn down my “blaring television” when I was just sitting at the computer reading. When I showed them no TV was on they seemed satisfied, but later called the landlord. :smack:
They have left two notes on the door since then one stating that my snoring is keeping them up all night, well I do snore loudly but can’t help it. One note generally asking me to be more considerate about noise but with no specific details. Besides the snoring the only thing I can think of is that I do tend to shout and cheer very loudly when my football team is on but this is only once a week for a few hours! :smack: Come to think of it they did mention this once asking why I would shout at the TV for hours on end and I explained the situation. They seemed ok with it?
Anyway I am now getting warnings from the landlord threatening to fine me which I can’t afford so what can I do? PLEASE don’t suggest doing something like making cookies for the neighbor as I have pretty bad anxiety and just don’t think I could handle that kind of interaction without completely falling to pieces. :dubious::smack:
Complain to the landlord that they’re harassing you.
Or better yet, when they do come over to complain, ask them to check with the other neighbors to see who actually does have the TV on or who is actually stomping around.
Personally, your best bet is to just deny everything. If someone really does have the TV blaring, there’s a small chance another neighbor will also complain and the landlord will figure out what’s going on.
OTOH, if you are that loud, you need to figure out how to be quieter, it’s part of living in an apartment. Not sharing a wall with my neighbor was one of, if not the main, reason I got a house. At least now when I have an obnoxious neighbor they’re 50 feet away instead of 4 inches.
Go to a pub or a friend’s house (a detached one) if you want to scream about sports. It’s really annoying to hear it when you’re not a sports fan. It’s especially annoying when you’re not watching the same thing, so there’s no visual cues for when to expect the guy next door or downstairs to start yelling his head off. You get surprised every time by the unexpected screaming.
