The biggest problem is each girl has feeling on their side of the body. Leg, Arm, boob (I guess) and face. Don’t know about their hoo ha.
There’s no way you could make love to only one of them. You can’t help but touch both sides. I’m not sure if the two girls could deal with that. It would be pretty creepy for the girls and their husbands.
Other conjoined twins have worked out the marriage thing before. Not sure if the girls could deal with that? I expect they are more likely to deal well with that than most potential husbands would. It wouldn’t be creepy for the twins because that’s all they’ve known.
The Schappell twins are. In fact, one of them is a transman. The other twin is (still) a female, straight, and at one time was engaged.
But those twins are kind of the opposite of the Hensels - two bodies joined at the head. Probably makes things much less complicated when it comes to “private matters”. Neither twin has children, as far as I know.
While I don’t know for certain on the details, George Schappell has issues Lori doesn’t, what with suffering from spina bifida and physical underdevelopment of his lower body which means George might not be able to have kids, aside from any transsexual issues involved, or having children might be extremely hazardous for that one of the pair. If either of those two has a kid it will almost certainly be Lori.
The Hensels are in a completely different situation in that regards, as any child will be mothered by both of them equally, as they have only one set of reproductive organs between them. Personally, I think “let the adults involved work it out and the rest of the adults mind they’re own business” is the best way to handle it.
Anyway, seeing as they are 50 years old, they’re probably unlikely to start having kids now. They are interesting people, though. Lori has a razor sharp sense of humor - dry, witty, and very snarky. A true Doper at heart.
I remember seeing a bit of the documentary about them when they wer sixteen. Seems like I’m not the only one who, once past the physical unusualness of two bodies on one set of legs, thought they were otherwise perfectly normal teenage girls. They certainly seemed more down to earth than Kate Whatsherface from Jon And Kate Plus Eight. My North Carolina grandmother would say they were “raised right”.
I got the same impression. In particular, I was impressed by the parents, and how no-nonsense and wise they were.
The girls themselves (I haven’t seen the new show, so speaking only from seeing them in the old shows) seemed very down-to-earth, well-adjusted, and just very all-around normal except for that one thing.
I did think they were very slightly bratty about how vocal they were when curious people wanted to approach them or take a picture of them - and now they’re on to reality TV? :\ But hopefully it won’t do them any harm, they’ll make some money, educate some ignorant people in the bargain.
This is another case that I have found interesting. These girls are younger (only 6 years old now) but it is believed that because of the way their brains are fused, they can most likely see out of the other twins eyes!
What they objected to was taking pictures on the sly without asking. And being on their own reality show was *their *decision.
They have said they understand the curiosity and that’s why they did the earlier shows but they do not want to be sideshow freaks. They want to be considered, as much as possible, ordinary people.
Did they seem okay to you? Physically, I mean. I saw some promo pictures I’m hoping were just poorly shot because they didn’t look in nearly as good health as the last time I’d seen photos of them
They do seem to have some scoliosis - they had surgery for that in the past. I suspect getting clothes that fit their torso and neckline can be problematic which definitely affects appearance.
Was it something specific you saw, or just a general impression?
They are just as active as ever. They took Segway lessons during their Chicago trip. They were very energetic and jumping around a lot in these episodes. Very typical college kids.
I wonder how they got the roommates to act so bubbly and excited? Those scenes seemed so natural and fun. Graduation is a exciting time. The college grind is over. These girls were happy to finish.
I like the observations the roommates make about Brittany and Abby. They seemed to really like the twins.
Agreed. These girls are incredibly well grounded and smart. I hope a elementary school hires them as teachers. They have talent for engaging the kids and keeping the kids interested in the lesson. Thats not easy even for experienced teachers. I’ve had teachers lecture until my eyes glazed over. I much rather have a dialog with a teacher. Challenge me.
What’s amazing to me is how many friends do I have on medications for depression or see therapists? A lot, I suppose, but these girls don’t even need that! It’s like, we live, we learn, just like you, so stuff it. We got an interview to go to. Fucking awesome.
