Connecticut

I do not. But then, I’m not even all that well-versed in Fairfield County, and I’ve lived here all my life. A sheltered lad, am I.

I live not even five minutes from the Bidwell Tavern. And shame on the rest of you! The Bidwell Tavern is the oldest tavern in America. Excellent wings as well. Great place for a meet. Then maybe a little gather at Patriot’s Park.

I thought they pronounced it “suburbs of New York City.”

I’ve always thought of it as a tract of land one must drive through to GET to New England.

No no no, Ike. What are commonly referred to as “Connecticut” are actually two distinct regions: the suburbs of New York and the suburbs of Boston. The latter also encompasses a good portion of the area referred to as “Rhode Island”.

or…“Row-dylan” as the locals say.

BTW, good job on Route 15…a wonderful drive between the pit that is Rt 95 and the boredom that is Rt 84.

It’s also just across the sound from “Lon Guy-land”

Phobos: Isn’t Rte 15 that little jog that connects Rte 91 and Rte 84, thus allowing the northeast-bound motorist to avoid the insurance-obsessed cesspool that is Hartford?

I took this route a few weeks ago, on my trip to Maine.

Come to think of it, the run through Massachusetts on the Mass Pike and Rte 495 is nearly as bad as the Connecticut portion of this drive…“C’mon, Rte 95! Come BACK to me, Rte 95! Portsmouth, here I come!!!”

Nice of the New Hampshiremen to place easy-access discount liquor marts on that ten-mile stretch of their lovely state before you hit the Maine border. You can stop for a quick pint of cheap rum to dull the memories of the last few hours.

Uke, I’m beginning to understand how the folks in Oregon and Washington feel about Californians.

Can I assume that it’s a similar kindness of New Yorkers to place easy-access dope peddlars on the street to dull your natural reaction to getting back home and realizing where you live?

I’m in Arlington, VA, which is just across the river from the District of Columbia.

I went to middle school, and my first year of high school, in Brewster, NY. My family did most of our shopping in Danbury. I was a mamber of the Danbury YMCA. We also made the drive to Newtown for the dollar movies. Dad owned a '79 VW Rabbit diesel and the only place he could get diesel fuel was at the truck stop at the first exit off I-84 in CT.

IIRC, Rt 15 is a scenic drive parallel to Rt 95 (running from about Rt 91 to almost NYC). Rt 91 is a jog between 84 and 95.

Yeah, thanks…I got off my ass and looked at a map. I was thrown because I usually think of 15 as the Merritt Parkway.

Finagle: So. You live in Hartford or New Hampshire? I’m crafting an H-bomb of an sarcastic response which will crush you to a writhing pulp, and I’d hate to get your address wrong.

Uke,

Originally from CT, but now north of Boston. And let me say I’m quaking in my Reeboks here. What kind of H-Bomb leaves anyone a writhing pulp? More like a rolled up newspaper of a sarcastic come-back if you ask me

Just be careful about it there, Uke. Seems like you’ve already got an extra nitrogen atom floatin’ around up there.

You mean people on this board actually live in Connecticut?

I though I was the only one!

Born and bred in Shelton for all of my years (17 of them, if you must know, so if there is a Dopefest and I can go, it can’t be in a 21+ place :p).

Oh, and regarding the Merritt Parkway:

I have to drive this bastard of a highway to and from work every day after school. I only have to go 5 exits, but sometimes on the way home at 6 PM, it’ll take me 45 minutes to an hour. The freakin thing disgusts me…plus, all drivers other than me are assholes!

Yeah, I’m only 16, so I’d have to side with Lord on the age thing.
