would this be her autopsy, how does she live?
Burns from meth lab explosion. Google “Heather Raybon” for more info.
Geez, even after being horribly disfigured as in the picture, she was busted ***again ***for making meth!
So, technically, this isn’t a result of meth, it’s a result of meth being illegal, which provides a market for illegal manufacture under horribly unsafe conditions. Back when motorheads could divert legally-produced amphetamine pills, you didn’t have meth lab explosions, because there were no meth labs as we know them.
It’s like claiming blindness and lead poisoning are natural consequences of alcohol use: No, they’re natural consequences of drinking wood alcohol and lead, both of which are found in bathtub gin, which practically nobody makes or drinks if legal alcohol is available.
I mean, just to be technically correct and fight ignorance in GQ.
Well sure, but I think the damage legal meth would have on a society would far outweigh things like the occasional lab explosion. Meth is probably the most insidious drug ever made: Cheap, long-acting, cocaine-like euphoric that can be homemade! Read about China’s Opium Wars…
Many of those before/after mugshots you see posted on antidrug websites are not the direct result of taking meth. The reality is that many (most?) meth heads actually look rather “normal,” and the website is trying to scare you from try it. Which I am not necessarily against, as meth is bad stuff…
Well, that shit ain’t gonna make itself…
Excellent point.
Most of those before and after anti-meth campaign photos you see are very misleading, the damage seen is a result of the lifestyle associated with meth being illegal or lack of self care than meth itself. Methamphetamine is even RXed still under the trade name Desoxyn for stuff like ADD or ADHD.
I’ve seen it said that as long as you take breaks and don’t binge for weeks at a time continuously, make sure you eat and drink and sleep that meth would have no visible bad effects. The tooth decay associated with meth is apparently because stimulants cause dry mouth and craving for sugary sodas or candy.
The facial sores are a result of binging and sleep deprivation causing compulsive face picking at small imperfections or an attempt to relieve a feeling of skin crawling.
I’m not saying here hey meth is a health food get as much as you can, just that the propaganda is misleading.
Without knowing the source of the photographs, we can’t tell you if the second one is before or after death. It isn’t an autopsy in either case, which is a post-mortem examination of a corpse to determine the cause and manner of death usually performed by a pathologist, not just a snapshot of a person. Can you give us more info about the woman?
edited: Thanks to The Hamster King for the info.
So, it’s not the consequences of crystal meth-it’s the consequences of a chemical explosion, it is not an autopsy, and she lives the same way any other person with a facial disfigurement lives. As disfigurements go, I’ve seen a lot worse. She still has both eyes, a working nose and a working mouth, and no great scars.
I’m not sure it’s an “Excellent point.” The point clearly is that we should legalize crystal meth to make it safer to make and to use? Is that really where you want to go with this?
No, the point was that the title of the OP is factually incorrect.
There’s a whole spectrum between “The system we have now” and “Full legalization”, and I think countries like the Netherlands have a good system: Treat it like a disease, make the drugs available through clinics, and sentence people to treatment and diversion programs instead of imprisonment if their only offenses are drug offenses.
But, yes, if you want to destroy meth labs, the way to do that is to destroy the economic system which makes meth labs profitable. Even the people who support the system we have now understand that, they just think they can accomplish their goal using the current methods.
