Yeah, I don’t get that either. Republicans love the guy because he was a “Republican,” and Democrats love the guy because he was progressive. And he wore a top hat. What’s not to love?

I read it to mean that they had referred to him as that in their plan, not that they were going to use that phrase in any commercials.

I too fail to see how dredging up a four-year old story is supposed to have any impact in this race. Unless Wright’s made some recent controversial statements and Obama’s been seen hanging out with him again, this is just a rehash of old news.

Romney is currently repudiating this effort, but when he was asked about comments he made on Sean Hannity’s radio show earlier this year, where he himself brought up Rev. Wright as an issue, this was his reply:

“I’m actually — I’m not familiar with precisely, exactly what I said. But I stand by what I said, whatever it was. And with regards to — I’ll go back and take a look at what was said there,”

In February, Romney was on Sean Hannity’s radio show and said the following regarding President Obama, his “philosophical leanings”, and the Rev. Wright:

"Without question, the legal code in this country is based upon Judeo-Christian values and teachings, Biblical teachings, and for the president not to understand that a wide array of religions and a conviction that Judeo-Christian philosophy is an integral part of our foundation is really an extraordinary thing. I think again that the president takes his philosophical leanings in this regard, not from those who are ardent believers in various faiths but instead from those who would like America to be more secular. And I’m not sure which is worse, him listening to Reverend Wright or him saying that we must be a less Christian nation.”

Today, after repudiating a plan to run millions in ads tying Obama to Jeremiah Wright, a reporter asked him about those February comments:

QUESTION: “When you did an interview with Sean Hannity in February, you said that you believed that Obama is trying to make America a less Christian nation. It was responding to quote that he had just played for you on the radio. Do you stand by that? And do you believe that President Obama’s world view was shaped by Reverend Wright and do you see evidence of that in his policies?”

ROMNEY: “I’m not familiar precisely with what I said, but I’ll stand by what I said, whatever it was.”

That’s the Romney campaign in a nutshell. He’s sure that he stands forthrightly behind whatever his most recent position on any issue was. And that’s a promise.
