I’ve been a longtime golden retriever owner. Standard poodles might well be my second favorite breed. Thought goldendoodles could be a fine mix of the two, but have just stuck with goldens. Buster is 5, so I (hopefully) won’t be looking into a new dog for some time.
I realize that goldendoodles are not recognized as a breed. But I wondered if breeders of goldendoodles have achieved any consistency in terms of breeding practices and characteristics.
Are they being “marketed” primarily based on their temperment, or have breeders concentrated on reducing shedding? In short, are any “standards” being arrived at regarding this mix? Are most doodles bred today the result of crossing doodle with doodle, golden with poodle, or just any combination?
This thread was inspired because on the drive in today I saw someone walking 2 doodles - a brown and a blonde. Couple of fine looking dogs.
