I won’t dispute the higher resolution, but every four years? Are you honestly going to tell me you can play a modern, graphics-intensive game in full speed and resolution using a video card with 16MB SDRAM? Four years ago, that video card was $200, about the price of a console. Today, $200 will buy you a GeForce4 TI 4400 or an X-Box. Your choice. Of course, you could go with a cheaper card, but it will be obsolete sooner. The $160 card I bought six months ago (GeForce3 TI 200) is now $79 on Pricewatch.
For me, that’s the funniest part. I’ve seen developers from game company message boards recommend that you go download the cracked .exe from a warez site to make their game work right and avoid the problems associated with SafeDisc 2. Aren’t these the same pirates that the game companies have been ranting about hysterically for years? Should we pick up free full versions of other games as long as we’re checking out their offerings?
I had the SafeDisc slowing-down problem with a copy of GTA3 for my PC. Frankly, it pissed me off more than a little to find that people who had illegally downloaded the game for free were enjoying better performance than me who had paid $50 for the game. And for what? So the developers could implement a protection scheme that they already know is ridiculously easily defeated?
As opposed to console games, where problems are so rare that patches are unneeded. I know I never had to take a copy of Super Mario Bros. back to the store because it was too buggy.
Look, I know it sounds like it, but I’m not trying to debate the merits of consoles versus PCs here. If I thought PC gaming was that bad, I wouldn’t have spent half a paycheck on a video card. I would also probably have console systems more advanced than my Dreamcast and PS1.
I know both platforms have their advantages and disadvantages. My post was not intended to start a holy war, but rather to show the opposing side of the OP’s piss-poor, expletive-laden argument. I didn’t mean it to come out as a “Rah rah rah! Hooray for consoles!” post. FWIW, GTA3 for my PC does look a hell of a lot better than the PS2 version. The graphics are crisp and lifelike, not blurry and undefined. Of course, if I had an older video card, I wouldn’t be so lucky.
I didn’t know that, but really it doesen’t matter. This game has just been announced. Unless Blizzards console development is very different from its PC development it will at the very least be a few years before the game comes out.
The fact that they just announced the game means nothing. Blizzard is famous for having games in development for quite a while before they announce them. The projected release for Ghost is Q4 of next year.
Oh man … that right there is one of the two beef(s? Can you have multiple beefs, or do you just have beef? Truly, a ponderable) I have with d2 closed bnet:
“Gay ass drops”
“duel me fags”
“retardedgayfag”
“mikeisgay”
“why are all necros faggot homos?”
“You don’t have [skill]? What are you gay?”
Blizzard is even more famous for pushing back their release dates for a few years. War3 was supposed to have 6 races when it started and its release date was pushed back for like 2 years and the races were cut down to 4.
I’m so sorry you guys didn’t enjoy my rant. That’s how I wanted to blow off some steam, so I did. I admit that rants, though they are primarily IMHO for the benefit of the ranter, are expected to amuse and entertain the bystanders. To each, his own, as I always say.
BTW, I do realize I can curse like a sailor in the Pit. However, my own interpretation of the “don’t be a jerk” rule led me to make a value judgment, to conclude that saying f*ck as many times as I did would be an ugly thing to do if I hadn’t *'ed the word. Personally, I don’t like alot of foul language, I’ve been phasing it out from my own speech since I’m going to become a lawyer and have to act like a professional, even just between friends. I felt like cursing up a storm, but didn’t feel like actually seeing those words in the text, so I *'ed them. Call it lame if you will, but to censor oneself is the ranter’s prerogative.
I can play on both console and PC, but I tend to prefer the console myself. But, that’s only because most games I like are on console systems.
Emulators just aren’t the same. I have an SNES emulator. I have the Tales of Phantasia ROM and it’s hard to play on a Keyboard because the battles are “active”. But, I can play Shin Megami Tensai on the emulator easily.
Still doesn’t replace the SNES itself though, but that’s just me. hheh
There are also converters available for about $20-25 that allow you to use controllers for old consoles on your PC. The converter plugs into the USB port. Some support multiple systems.
I agree totally. I got an xbox and the games just suck, except Halo which is still overrated. The controls suck, the games are mindless. Nothing beats a keyboard/mouse. Button mashers every last one of them. PC all the way, bitach
“More like punk is to metal, as metal was around before punk was.”
well punks godfather band released an album in 65, so I think hes right in the age of the 2, but they are so far apart in evolution they really can’t be compared.
halo is a great game, to bad the lack of a mouse makes it play like shit.
I had no idea who these people were, and after looking on Google, I don’t know what’s more disturbing - fantasizing over “Gadget”, or the fact that there are entire Gadget Fanfic sites, featuring screenplays, musicals, and of course, hardcore Gadget p0rn…
Oh, it’s the gamer. It took me an hour or so to get used to the controls, but once I made it over the learning hump, Halo plays like a dream. Remember: it’s a poor gamer who blames his gamepad.
I like both console and PC games. I don’t waste enough money on my PC to be able to play newer games, I can’t play Neverwinter Nights, the newest PC game I have is Fallout Tactics…
There are good games made for all of the systems, but there’s no way in hell I’m buying more than one console…
For those who claim that PC games are deeper, that console games are nothing but twitch fests, I must point out that **consoles are the last refuge of the turn based RPG. All PC RPGs now are “real time”, consoles have a lot of really great turn based strategy RPGs. I have yet to play a PC game with the depth of Final Fantasy Tactics or Front Mission 3.
Also, on the “boobs and guns” front- most of the recent games I’ve played that were notable for lacking in lowest common denominator appeal have been on consoles: Rez and Jet Grind Radio both had unique artistic style and a distinct lack of big booty women with giant phallic guns.
I should also point out that Fallout Tactics would have been much, much better as a console style turn based strategy RPG than as a half assed PC style RTS/RPG.
Eh? You can play Fallout Tactics with turn-based combat (But starting a fight can get tricky). Though you are right - it seems that most games nowadays want to regulate how fast you can do things, rather than take turns.
