Contractors, in addition to whatever else, may be curious and silly.

Really, really Mundane Pointless Stuff I Must Share.

We had this contractor in to fix-up a re-po purchased for investment. The estimate was very good. He started and finished more or less on time. The work was quite satisfactory. Final bill came to a* few hundred dollars less than the estimate.*

On the punch list at the walk-through were a couple of minor items. One was remove his somewhat valuable tools and supplies from the garage. He promptly removed the things of value – but replaced them with several boxes of 20 year old college textbooks.

Did the contract say he *couldn’t *do that?

Are they worth anything? Is he pissed off at you for some reason? Does he think you could sell the books for him? Where did you find this guy?

I’m a (sub) contractor and have over three decade’s worth of experience in working in both commercial and residential settings. I have never heard of such a thing and can’t even begin to imagine why someone would do this.

This cracks me up! All I ever hear are horrible contractor stories, thanks for providing balance.

I have a horrible contractor story. Well, not horrible but very frustrating. Is there a thread for that?

I would be happy to settle for: final cost coming in under the estimate; finishing on time; and several boxes of books left behind.
Roddy

I wonder if he had the books in his truck, took them out and put them on the floor of the garage to make room for the tools and supplies, and then forgot to put them back in?

Not that I’ve ever done anything like that … :o

Have you checked to be sure there isn’t a banjo in one of the boxes?
