Contradictory Behaviors

I am an ardent atheist that would pretty much require a miracle from God Himself to make me believe in a Higher Power but I have owned and worn a crucifix at all times since I was sixteen years old.

Telling people I am an atheist days or weeks after I have met them is always fun because nine times out of ten, they will give me an incredulous look and then stutter out that they thought I was christian due to my often visible cross and even after explaining why I wear it (it was a present while I still nominally believed and I am a sentimental person by nature), their startlement generally is not allayed.

Does anyone else have similarly surprising habits, views, or behaviors that’re in opposition to some integral part of your personality?

I wear a T Shirt that says “RAP SUCKS” in big white letters on a black shirt eventhough I love rap music. It’s supposed to be ironic but most people probably don’t get it.

Heh, I have an Oregon Ducks T-shirt that I wear sometimes even though I am not into sports and am not a fan of any particular teams.

I’m a Trekker and yet I’ve been known to both go outside at times and even have sex on occasion. Sometimes those two things are related! As are most of my sex partners, now that I think about it.

It’s posts like these that put NoClueBoy into, at least, the top three funniest posters of all-time. I don’t have anything to add to the thread (yet), but I just had share my appreciation of NoClueBoy.

Thanks, Jim!

I hope you get feeling better.

I read about a band who would start each show with, “Hi, we’re Primus, and we suck!” They sold t-shirts that said so, too.

I have a t-shirt with the name of a defunct hockey team from Macon, Georgia, US. I’ve never been to Macon, and I’m not a big hockey fan. It’s just that the Macon Whoopee had the coolest name in sports.

It’s so easy to find contradictory behavior in politicians that there’s no sport in it.

Aesiron,

I wear my grandmother’s ‘Om’ on a chain around my neck nearly all the time, for sentimental reasons. (‘Om’ is sort of the Hindu version of the crucifix - a strong symbol of our religion.)

I am a pretty diehard atheist as well. If God should show up and show me a miracle, I still wouldn’t worship him - I’d sit him down and have a long discussion about why the world is so horrible.

Of course I’d probably get smited, but I still wouldn’t worship him.

I would never wear a cross, since I don’t want to be mistaken for a Christian, but I occasionally wear a Thor’s Hammer necklace. I don’t worship Thor, but it’s Viking pride.
