Controversial encounters between law-enforcement and civilians - the omnibus thread #2

The irony is that those cards were presumably made to mock the concept of white privilege, not to prove that it exists.

Also, under what definition is she white?

Under the “Model Minority” program.

I’m not joking. I encounter a frightening number of Asian Americans and (lighter skinned) Latinos who are all in with white supremacy because they believe they will be accepted as white after victory in the racial holy war.

My brother (a first generation South Asian immigrant) is a vocal defender of the internment of Japanese Americans in WW2. People who oppose it don’t understand what patriotism requires in wartime.

My sister insists that the abuse her son (an Army veteran) faces is acceptable anti-immigration sentiment, not unacceptable racism. Yup, those people denigrating his military service would be doing the same if he was second generation Irish-American.

I guess hospital security counts as law enforcement. Hospital security guards beat a kidney patient because he’s black, so he must be trying to steal a car. He died, by the way, though of his kidney problem.

While taking a course at university (“The Legal History of the Asian-American”), I was shocked, but in retrospect, I realized I should not have been, to learn that how Asians have been treated in American history has been one of how white the majority population sees them at the time. When considered to be white, good treatment; when not considered white, bad treatment.

And I have heard from an Asian American: “There are only two races: Whites and non-whites”. I wonder how she’s processing that now, what with the anti-Asian bigotry running rampant.

Most of the Chinese Americans I know think anti-Asian bigotry is a problem with Black people, not white. All the scary videos I’ve seen on WeChat have been of Black assailants or assailants that aren’t identifiable by race but are claimed to be Black. Not most. All. Now the Chinese Americans I know skew heavily into the “one foot in each country” type, and contempt for Black people is pretty endemic in Chinese culture. Maybe second, third and further generation Chinese Americans are systematically different.

Meh. More of a twist on let go with a warning instead of a citation.

Kind of like the one where the officer asked for the driver’s pilot’s license after he pulled him over for speeding and he just happened to have one.

Huh. I’d scoff, but American Jews have been doing that for well over a century.

White police chief of an 80% minority town in Mississippi recorded bragging about killing 13 people in the line of duty, saying, “I shot that n----- 119 times, OK?”

From your link:

I will articulate to fix the f—ing problem, and I’m the only man in the business here that’s smart enough to do it.

Oh, yeah. That’s one articulate dude.

He uses his tongue prettier than a twenty dollar whore two bit sailor?

wrong thread, sorry.

TikTok Challenge Eyed in Bronx Shooting Death of Teenager – NBC New York

It was an off duty correctional officer who shot him.

From the quotes in that article…he may be a racist mother fucker, but what he definitely is is a lying mother fucker. He may as well have said he banged Morgan Fairchild.

And so the NYPD has declared this an illegal air rifle:

How can that be illegal? It doesn’t look anything like a cell phone!

Maybe they’re commonly carried by people selling single cigarettes.

Is it up to the cops to declare what is and is not illegal?

No, but they do have to make in-the-moment calls on things. I guess announcing it does two mostly things:

  1. Tells people that they can be arrested if using one in public
  2. Lets someone go to a judge ahead of arrest and argue that it isn’t

How can a toy gun be illegal when real ones are not?
